Last night the plate on my straightener burnt out, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations before I buy a new one. I have naturally curly hair that doesn't straighten easily, and most of the Conair ones that you can buy at CVS, Target, ect. don't work on it. I'd love to buy a Chi again, but don't have the money right now, so I'm open to any suggestions!
I've looked briefly online, but wanted to know if anyone had one they liked. I use it very often, so I want something that will last. Thanks!

Yup. The T3 Ionic straightener is excellent. My hair is naturally very curly and it's fantastic. I got it at Sephora. Have the T3 hairdryer too and love it.

Posted: 5/23/07 at 10:24amMy hair is also naturally very curly. I have the T3 Ionic straightener from Sephora and I'm acutally not that huge of a fan of it. It works but I find it leaves my hair dryer than other straighteners I've used in the past. My all time favorite straightener is from a brand called "Hair Art." It is about the same price as the T3 and I think you can find it on Amazon.

Holly, do you use the wet to dry setting? I never do that. I blow dry it first and then if I think I need the straightener I use it (usually for stray frizzies). Also, you should always use a heat protecor on dry hair before you straighten. After I straighten I always put in a drop After Party cream (Bed Head) or gloss drops.
I've never heard of Hair Art!

I would also recommend that you consider using the KMS "Flat Out" line of products in conjunction with your mechanical straightening. As I'm sure you know, heat-straightening is extraordinarily damaging to your hair, and the KMS Flat Out line is designed to compensate for that, as well as relax the hair, over time. (It's not a strong chemical straightener, but the products are designed to gently relax curly hair and make it easier to straighten with tools over a period of weeks, and it also eases the damage and makes your hair shinier and silkier than it would be otherwise).
They also smell really, really, really good. :)

I have the one thats for dry hair only. I'm TERRIFIED to use a straightener on my wet hair!
I found out about the Hair Art straightener from a lady I used to babysit for. I used it once and fell in love with it. It has all the different heat settings, you can use it to curl or straighten, and the plates are rounded so your hair doesn't get stuck in them like it does with cheaper irons. I think it cost about $130 or so.

AH!!! I just found it on sale at Amazon for $70...so buying it!

I worship KMS. I used to be a rep for them in San Francisco, when I first moved there and was working in a salon on Polk Street. (Who's surprised?)
I wish they'd knock off the goddamn repackaging, though. I LOVED their original bottle design.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I love the Chi, but I was looking for something a little less expensive right now. Someone else told me about the Solia, too, so I might check that out.
I've never heard of the Hair Art either. $70-90 was what I wanted to spend, so thanks for the Amazon tip!

Posted: 5/23/07 at 10:58amMaybe I'll pick up the Hair Art for my sister. She's been using her iron since COLLEGE. It's so old it has a crimping plate.

Posted: 5/23/07 at 1:27pmI just found an amazing straightner at Costco for $35. No joke. I bought it cuz i was desperate cuz my other one just broke and i was there. But it is fabulous. I have naturally very curly hair and this straightner gets it very straight very quickly. It's CONAIR Tourmaline Ceramic. Seriously. My roomate who normally spends well over $100 on good straightners fell in love with this one and went out and bought it yesterday even tho she has a hot tools one.
