Hairspray Question (1/6)

So I saw Hairspray for the second time 1/6 front row orchetra.... right next to the staircase...

Before the second act started, the conductor came out of the pit and said "Get your hands together!"Everyone started clapping and the music began. I don't remember this, is it new or just a one night thing?

It was hilarious when her "extra" wig fell off during the detention scene - you could see it coming from a mile away....

EDIT: crap, just realized i posted this on the OT board...oh well...

re: Hairspray Question (1/6)

Hahaha I was there...a little farther back than the front row (Mezz row R), but I didn't notice that. I can't say I'm surprised, but in a good way. I was holding my breath from the opening, she was going NUTS, I couldn't believe her wig didn't just go flying off.

I posted a review and am currently receiving mild criticism on the main board, under "Hairspray 1/5"

EDIT: Oops, I forgot to make my point: It's funny to hear that she actually did lose a wig - well PART of a wig - after all.
Andrew, tonight isn't about you! It isn't even about me!!! - [FD]

Oh, I guess I noticed it in the front row - the first time I was 4th row Mezz....

(they also took out a lot of lines from the last time saw it)

Yeah, the Second layer of tracey's wig...

re: Hairspray Question (1/6)

#1. My partner had seen the show about a year ago and said that the conductor never did that.
#2. I saw it on 1/5, and Carly's wig did it, too. I think it's supposed to, for the laughs. She plays it really well, and the timing is too good to be improvised.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

re: Hairspray Question (1/6)

I don't think Carly is too good at her wig addition! Hehe! I saw her a few months ago and it FLEW off!

Also, I saw the tour on Wedsnesday, and the conductor got everyone going with the clapping (He was a total cutie, too.)
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

re: Hairspray Question (1/6)

I really think that "Wig addition" should take place off stage. I kinda felt like I was seeing something they didnt mean for me to see. (also, there are hairdressers backstage who could make sure it is attatched)
