Hairspray:Stage or Film?

Which one of the two did you enjoy more?

Neither.
"I can't figure out what kind of life this is, comedy or tragedy, I just know it's showbiz. And what if I don't agree with the lines I have to read? They don't pay me enough, the way I see it."

I can't wait to see the film. I really enjoy the musical. I WILL own the DVD.

Each one succeeds within the mediums they were created for. The great thing about HAIRSPRAY is that no two HAIRSPRAYs are totally alike. The story has evolved from it's original 1988 version all the way through to this new 2007 incarnation. The source material is so strong that it lends itself to be successfully adapted into any medium. I wouldn't be surprised if HAIRSPRAY the video game was in the works somewhere down the line.

I wouldn't change either; both are successful in their own medium. I have to admit, however, that I believe every single change made to bring the theatrical version to screen worked to perfection.

I'm always sceptical of the penny character in any thing other than the OBC because of her vocals in YOU CANT STOP THE BEAT. Her voice is like heaven.
No one wants to see a musical called Thoroughly Modern Mildred.

I adore the stage version of Hairspray.

The movie....well it was better thank SiCKo, but not really that great.

If Tom DeLay is The Hammer, then I proclaim a new title for the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi: The Briber. Nancy Pelosi had to bribe her members with spinach to get their votes.

I thought for a second "oh my God HDT is posting in a non political thread" and then he had to go and mention SICKo and prove that he just can't help himself. Oy.

As for Hairspray, I'll wait until I see the film but since the genres are so different I will probably not make a comparison, unless the film really sucks and from all accounts that is not the case.

For me it's like choosing between your children! I love them both the same.

"Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
