In keeping with the Russian theme, I just learned this from a Birthday Traditions Around The World site:
Russia - Birthday Pies. Instead of a birthday cake, many Russian children receive a birthday pie with a birthday greeting carved into the crust.

*runs off to bake a pie for Glebby. And then have BD sign the greeting in the crust*
