Next week on the twentieth of May, I proclaim 'Liza Doolittle Day. All the people will celebrate the glory of you, and whatever you wish and want I gladly will do!
Look what the Tonys just posted on Facebook:
Tony Awards
Happy Liza Doolittle Day!
From the 1957 Tony Award-winning Best Musical My Fair Lady:
One evening the king will say,
Next week on the 20th of May
I proclaim Liza Doolittle Day!
REALLY?! Is it Liza or Eliza?!

The character's name is Eliza, but the lyric sounds like 'Liza.
So, that's okay to post it, if it sounds like it?
There has been a line in The Color Purple that sounded like, 'And your dog can stay', but turns out it was really 'on your darkest day'. But people don't usually quote what things sound like. So I was sort of shocked that the Tonys would post incorrect lyrics.
^^Exactly!

I'm pretty sure it's Liza. Just listen to the song. Therefore, the Tony Awards Facebook page is correct.

Again, just listening to the song proves nothing. What is actually written in the score is the truth.
Thanks PRS!

But Julie Andrews, Marni Nixon, and the actor who played King George V in the film would obviously sing the correct lyric.
You never said that. You just said it sounded like Liza.
Bottom line is, I was asking what the actual lyric was, not what it sounded like.
But thanks for playing
