It is a hard one for Mrs R as this is the first without her mom who died 5 months ago. She is naturally a little down.

I am taking her out to dinner in about 1 hour. I am going to give her a great holiday season - strike or no strike.

Holidays can be hard when you are "celebrating" for the first time since losing a loved one. Be thankful for the time you had and remember the good times, and raise a glass in their honor.

My condolences to you and your wife, Mr. R. on the loss of your mother in law/mother. It is never easy to lose a parent, no matter what your age.

All I can tell you is what the folks at Hospice told me: “The first year will be the hardest because it IS a year of firsts—first birthday, first holiday, first whatever without them.” My Mom passed away in May.

Really nice to see you posting again. And I, too, am really sorry to hear about your mom. I found that the first round of holidays really were the most difficult. Actually, it's one of those things that time may not actually heal, but at least it blunts the impact.

I'm sending good and empathetic thoughts your way.
