Lol I've never had Corona (or any beer), so I wouldn't know.

You'd think she'd try to cover up the fact that she drinks, or at least the production people would. It seems to me that they wouldn't want someone who was doing the Harry Potter movies to have photographs of them holding beer bottles.

Well hiya, Richard. Sorry you croaked. Perhaps do us all a quick favor, have a chat with Gambon, and ask him, "Why the anger?" Must Dumbledore be so ragey?

If you YouTube "Emma Watson Private Photos" or something, there's actually personal photos of her with friends, set to music by Pink. Strange stuff. I pity her; apparently these friends don't respect her privacy! (Says the person who's using such a photograph as her avatar! Chapter 9 The Half Blood Prince)

Edited: Here it is!

Oh, and speaking of the production wanting to keep their teen actors' bad habits hush-hush...

The legal for her to drink in England is 18, but drinking is not treated with the same odd mix of disdain and reverence. Many places just have their own rules about it. I don't think it is a big deal to them at all.

About the movies: I didn't miss the elimination of SPEW or the house elves, I really hated Dobby in #2. The same with Bagman, he was totally unnecessary. I agree since Rita was there, there was no sense in not actually giving her more to do, they seemed to build up the idea of how juicy she could be and then just drop it.

The two points that were important omissions to me were Percy and Sirius. Sirius only having the brief cameo does not build him up as an important enough figure in Harry's life, the end of #5 NEEDS that relationship. Percy is the same way, the books deal with real personal issues between people.

I hate that the movies are often just racing from one big magical act to another, the books are slow and have great depth.
I hope the solution isn't simple Tiff, but what I think will happen is that the solution will be complex yet have some essential element that they break down and throw in a movie.
Like the people on Pottercast, I think in 20 years someone is going to come along and decide to make "real" versions of these movies that actually treat the subject matter of the books with respect.

I wish SOMETHING could be done with Gambon, he really seems to be missing the character completely.

I never got the chance to give my thoughts on this chapters questions from the book.

We haven't seen many adult wizards use nonverbal spells. Why do you think that is? Are they so difficult that, like apparation, some people just don't bother with them? If so why are the students being expected to master them?

As the question indicates we have seen non-verbal spells in some cases in the past. It remains that even in the most dire of circumstances most seem to have been using regular spells. I do think that can be chalked up to the difficulty of concentration involved (they seem to do little good in a battle) I believe as with apparition that many people just don't want to put in the effort. I also think there are MANY things that the people learn in school that are quickly forgotten.

Is Hermione being overly cautious about the Potions textbook? Is Harry being reckless to use it? Is the answer somewhere in between?
I think Harry is being dangerously reckless, especially since Ginny mentions the Diary in Chamber of secrets and he just gets angry at her. (Foreshadowing?) Yes it is a part of his character, which is exactly what Voldemort has used against him in the past.
I also think Harry thinks his success depends upon the book more than it actually does.
because:
How does Slughorn's approach to teaching Potions compare to Snape's?
It is certainly better for Harry. Snape is actually an effective teacher, he comands the attention of his students. He simply does not mince words. He certainly has his "least favorites" but I am not convinced he actually has favorites, there has been some indication over the books that he treats Crabbe and Goyle with the same disdain as Neville. It is simply Malfoy that is the question.
Slughorn rules loosely, yet he seems very effective as well. As others have said, he plays the favorites card openly. He simply seems to dismiss those that are not so great without the contempt of Snape.

What do you think is the third thing Hermione smells in the Amortentia? Freshly mown grass, new parchment, and...?

It is certainly something about Ron. Since we find out EXATLY what the flowery smell Harry smells is, I am sure it is not that. Chapter 9 The Half Blood Prince I hope it is not corned beef though.

I notice that someone said they didn't care about this question. I think that is fine, but it was just thrown in for a bit of fun. I don't understand having a problem with it. I don't think the love potion will be significant in the future, there seems a limit to the uses of love potions.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Yesa I'll have a chat with Gambon about making my docile, funny character into a raging man who, despite reprimanding Umbridge in the fifth book about manhandling his students (Marietta, who I feel should have been shaken), throttles Harry.

And the beard bell has got to go.

How could I forget Sirius?? Yeah, Sirius' miniscule presence in the movie is a big problem. He borderlines on pathetic, petulant and unlikeable in the fifth book, so GOF was really the movie's best opportunity to develop their relationship. (Has there been ANY update on Gary's presence for the fifth movie??) I'm glad Percy's back for book 5 - these sorts of relatable personal issues are what gives the series more depth and relevance than just being a story with wizards. (The same defence could be made for SPEW and the elves, but I found them so damn annoying in the movie, so I'll just be a hypocrite here.)

It seems that, death aside, Gambon will keep playing Dumbledore, and, personally, his casting has been the biggest disappointment. One of Dumbledore's most notable characteristics, to me, was that when he displayed even the slightest bit of anger, you know it's something serious. So for him to go from zero to raging in GOF was totally against his character. Harris played him with the appropriate amount of twinkle and sterness. I'm worried that Gambon will be too cold in the next two movies to really...well, I won't continue since this would obviously be going into future chapters! Chapter 9 The Half Blood Prince

BTW, OTM, since he throttled Harry in GOF, let's hope he gives a right slap to Marietta in OOTP! And speaking of looking forward to stuff in OOTP, I cannot WAIT until the Weasleys twins' departure!

Oh gosh, I know!! Fred and George were really funny in this movie. I am anxious to see how the Luna does, because when I saw her, she really didn't look like I expected.

Humph if I were British, I could have been a great Luna. *mumbles about unfair casting*

Yeah, I'm disappointed by Luna's look, too. I can't describe how I envisioned her...just a bit wispier and with more of a spacy etheral air.

Humph, if I was British (and several years younger), I could've been Cho Chang. I regress to teeny-bopper rage when I watch Katie's interviews, and hurl insults at my computer or TV. (Well, I'm not a Daniel lover - the rage happened when the rumors surfaced that Katie's dating Robert Pattinson.)

Anyway, back to discussions on Harry Potter, in POA (the movie) I really missed the whole thing about James, Lupin, Sirius and Peter being, respectively, Prongs, Mooney, Padfoot and Wormtail. It was a pretty important thing to be kept out of the movie. And the Firebolt thing.

One of the major things I dislike about Gambon is that he has admitted he has not read the books and has no interest in doing so. I consider that sloppy acting. He claims all he needs to know should be in the script, that is nonsense. Actors do all kinds of research outside of the script (Hoffman researched Capote for months) doing as little work as possible and thereby misterpreting a MAJOR character is ridiculous.

Well, if he had read the books, he would understand that Dumbledore, even when he is angry, doesn't rant and throttle. He has that cold kind of anger, which I think can be much worse.

Gambon's Dumbledore in the last movie was by far my least favorite thing about it. As you note, he was just wrong in his choice. (Grabbing Harry and shaking him being paramount.)

I doubt that JKR has any input on that kind of detail. Personal acting and directorial choices that are not part of the "mythology" are surely in the domain of the usual creative teams. Which is unfortunate in this instance, but necessary for an actor. The actor needs to make the choice to "find" the character.

I think the only say Rowling has (and I imagine this is her choice) is if they omit things that are vital to future plots, she'll nudge them in the right direction. I think she's being deliberately hands off, which I respect her for, but I think part of the book's heart is in how Dumbledore is portrayed. I'm wholly disappointed that Gambon not only hasn't read the books, but refuses to read them. It shows a total lack of commitment, and it's disrespectful to Rowling and her fans.
