Posted: 11/9/08 at 6:56pmI know Obama has a lot of problems he has to deal with right now (the economy, health care, energy, etc, etc,), but Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld (sp), Rove, and everyone else need to be held accountable for their actions.

As of now, I think Obama should be more concerned with a smooth transition and with keeping a careful eye on things which might be attempted to be be pushed through in these last days of the Waning Bush Empire.
Obama is going to have to hit the ground running and begin on day one the monumental battle to try and get this country back on track,

Posted: 11/9/08 at 8:04pmAs much as I'd like Bush and his pals put through the grinder, I'd much rather look forward right now. We need to devote all of our energy to getting this country back on track. It's the main reason I didn't see the 'W' movie. I don't even want to laugh at him. I just want him to go away.

I'd rather see him look to the future than dig through the past.
Plus, we elected him president not "Sherlock Holmes."
We can leave that mystery for the people who elected him TWICE to answer.

Posted: 11/9/08 at 8:33pmI'll admit that a few weeks ago, I strongly favored an investigation early in an Obama administration. Now, however, it doesn't seem all that important to me.

I agree.
Let's get W the hell out and move on.
He wasn't "Hitler," but he is without question our biggest do-nothing-but-dumb-stuff president of all time.

I'd like to see a small-scale Congressional investigation--centered around a constitutional issue like torture or eavesdropping or politicizing the federal attorneys--leading to a censure of some sort, for which Obama can offer some kind of unofficial presidential pardon.
That way we can have an official acknowledgment of the crimes of the Bush administration, leaving Bush's official legacy in tatters, and Obama can look magnanimous saying we should look forward not back.
Then we all move on with smiles on our faces.

I'm not sure if I'm reading this topic or the replies right, but if the President or his Administration committed crimes, shouldn't they be held responsible? Or do people in America feel that the President and Administration are not to be held to the same laws that apply to everyone else?
I don't think it is up to Obama to do an investigation, but shouldn't Congress, law enforcement or the Justice Department investigate the numerous questionable actions of the Bush Administration?
Do people here feel that Presidents and their staff are above the laws that apply to the common person? Or are you saying that you don't think any real crimes were committed, or at least there is no indication or evidence, so forget it?

I think people are worn down to a nub with Bush et. al. I didn't realize how much everyone was stressed out because of his administration until global tears started to flow when the election results came in. People just want to move on.
However, I think precedents have to be set and attention must be paid. The American people are the boss of the potus and every other elected official. We're not their bitches. We were bad bosses, though. Complacent. We didn't run him out while he was in office, I think we need to press some issues to set an example to future leaders that the American public doesn't like being jerked around.

Posted: 11/10/08 at 9:07amIn an ideal world, Bush and his cronies would all have their assets liquidated to go toward paying off the gigantic national debt they accumulated. But at least he's not going to be in office for much longer.

Saying "Is our children learning?" and using words like "misunderestimated" is dumb stuff.
Lying about weapons of mass destruction, invading Iraq, killing thousands of Iraqis and American troops, encouraging torture and illegal surveillance of Americans is rather more serious than that.
Of course, there will be no Obama-sanctioned investigation. It will all be forgotten about, and Bush Etc. will live happily ever after in the America they have done so much to demolish.

Yeah, probably. We did nothing while he was in office, we'll certainly do nothing while he's out.

I've read the replies following my questions and I'm afraid I disagree with you Elphaba. It does matter now otherwise a bad precedent is being set that says that the President is essentially outside the law, his position too absolute and his work too important to be held accountable to law.
I have personally talked with former high ranking Air Force officials, one of whom oversaw Air Force Intelligence, who all 3 agreed that there was no justifiable Military reason for W to have America enter Iraq. I also have heard from a current high ranking BLM manager who said that the only reason for entering Iraq was oil. This would indicate that W had America enter Iraq under fraudulent pretenses. Wouldn't this be a crime?
Now are you saying that if man kills a former wife, or a woman kills her former husband over a child custody issue, that it doesn't really matter as long as the child is in a good home, is well fed, clothed and educated?
