I, also, put a lot of thought into gifts. And I usually just don't get gifts from people I care about, which I don't know...I guess that's better than getting one where you know no thought or care was put in. Or maybe I'm just used to it.

It's not that I care about the presents. But sometimes, it's like they feel obligated to get you something/anything, so they just get a Chia Pet at the gas station. I had a "friend" in high school that I put a lot of thought into her gift one year. She got me some drugstore facewash and stickers. I actually would have preferred that she not get me anything at all than something like that.

My older brother never listens to anyone and has no interest in other people. The last time I spoke to him, he actually said--in complete earnest--"You need to learn that I come first."

Last Xmas, he gave a set of steak knives to my younger brother--who has been a vegetarian for 20 years.
