We saw this yesterday and both my wife and I were absolutely blown away by it. We both put it as our favorite movie of last year, and we've seen many of the major releases (still haven't seen Wolf of Wall Street or 12 Years a Slave). The movie was more sci-fi than I expected, but it was such a HUMAN movie as well. I can't remember the last time I "felt" so much during a film.

Definitely worth going to see if you haven't yet - brilliant movie.

And Scarlett Johansson deserves an Oscar nomination for a role she doesn't appear in physically at all. It's shocking that she was denied the ability to get that.

I saw it last night and really liked it.

Johansson is eligible for an Oscar nomination, though; it's just the Globes that ruled her ineligible.

Johansson deserves a nomination. But Phoenix deserves the gold. His performance is extraordinary.

I saw it this afternoon as well and was overwhelmed by it. It's a stunning film and remarkably unforgettable. Some will find it funnier than others. The audience this afternoon laughed at a lot of the sections that tugged on my heart-strings. So, I'm curious to hear what others think.

I completely agree with this. Probably my favorite movie of 2013.

Phoenix may win the GG because of the seperate comedy category. I think the Oscar favorite has to be Matthew Mcconnaghy (sp?). Besides Dallas Buyers Club, he had a hell of a year, with Mud and Wolf of Wall Street.

I agree Jon, I really don't like McConaughey in general, but he was freaking awesome in this role!

It was a fantastic year for men in film. It's usually just the women who get all the real buzz so it's nice to hear so much good stuff about the guys this year!

I didn't know much about the film when I walked into the theater (I wanted to see August: Osage County but it was sold out) well it absolutely blew me away. Joaquin Phoenix gives the performance of his career (so far).

Have you seen The Master? I loved Her but I still maintain that Joaquin Phoenix in The Master is one of the best male performances I've seen on film in the past decade.

Why? Everyone seems to enjoy the film. I saw it and enjoyed it. I was not quite blown away. Being older, I found it interesting that some people would find it funny.

What I liked about the film is that I found it disturbing. I found it disturbing that we would come to a place where people would take refuge and find love in an artificial relationship rather than risk human contact. I also liked that ultimately we find there is no safe place.

I see society becoming much more " Me" oriented but maybe you need to be older to notice the change. That is the subtext I saw. It does make you think.

My only beef was that the pace was a bit slow.

I caught a late showing tonight.

I actually found the entire concept extremely disturbing, and maybe that's a good thing. Being younger, I think it's an opportunity to open a dialogue about how much we trust our lives to our devices, and how dependant people have become on them.

Not one of my favorites, just because I couldn't get past how strange and foreign it seemed to me to have a relationship with a computer - but worth seeing.

Some fantastic acting in it, as has already been mentioned. I really liked Amy Adams in this.

I'm seeing a lot of reviews around the internet that seem to try to shoehorn this movie into being about how technology isolates us and holds our personal growth back... Was I the only one who felt like that wasn't the point at all?

I thought it was so incredible and refreshing that the movie didn't demonize technology and modern communication. I'd agree that is was disturbing to a degree but I thought Jonze wasn't all that concerned with that angle of it.

I'm glad SJ is eligible for an Oscar - I got them confused, I guess.

I wasn't so much disturbed by it as fascinated by the idea that we could, as a society, get to the point where talking to a computer was completely normal, let alone not batting an eye at the idea of someone falling in love with one. If someone told you this now they'd think you were crazy, but thirty years from now? Who knows.

If anything, I think the movie made the point that there's nothing quite like human contact. Notice the last shot of the movie was of human contact - something impossible with the computer.

I agree also with the poster who said Phoenix was excellent. That was no small feat, carrying that movie, and he did it so well.

beautiful film. disturbing, funny, irreverent.... The production design alone was killer. I had a number of moments watching this film where I felt paralyzed. I empathized, i judged and felt judged by what I was seeing unfold... Truly engrossing piece of cinema. And AMY ADAMS.
