It is so terrible - I can't warn you enough.

The movie is suspensful and "scary" enough until the last 15-20 minutes or so. There is a huge "twist" that - I suppose - is supposed to make the movie interesting. This "twist" renders the movie dead and does nothing for it. Avoid this like the plague.

Well, ten per ticket....

I'll take you to another movie, Tartuga. I hear "Sisterhood" is a good date flick.

I agree about High Tension, which for some reason was called Switchblade Romance in the UK. In and of itself, the twist is completely ruinous, stopping the movie dead in its tracks. What makes it even worse is every review and all the word of mouth mentions that towards the end of the movie, there is a twist. So while I was watching it, I was aware that there was a twist coming. Consequently, it wasn't overly difficult to work out what this revelation was going to be. Having come to the only possible conclusion as to what was going to happen, I spent the rest of the movie leading up to it hoping I was wrong. When I was proved right I threw up my hands in disgust and was thankful that I rented the movie so I could switch it off.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I liked the movie a little bit more than you guys did. I had a feeling, going in, what the ending would be. I was watching the first half, and figured that I was wrong. Then the twist came, and I found out I was right. The twist doesn't make perfect sense to me, but the preceeding 70 minutes are so well done, that I can't let the denouement ruin the whole thing.

If you're a horror fan, it's worth a matinee price.

See, I don't agree. They aren't well done at all, I don't think. They stretch credibility to breaking point and beyond. Most horror films do, but even within the diegesis, these 70 minutes aren't that well done as they're allowing for the stupidest twist in Christendom.

Watched the unrated DVD last night and, to my surprise, I liked it a LOT more than when I saw it in theaters. Maybe it's because I knew what the twist was ahead of time, but I really enjoyed it this time.

(possible spoilers)

As for the twist... At first, I thought it was a cheat, but there are several clues given in the first 10 minutes. There are also those who think the twist is just plain stupid. However, the content (and the nature behind it) is buried so deeply in the human psyche, it's nearly pointless to argue against it. In fact, the more you think about it, the more these "plot holes" begin to explain themselves.

The second time around, I looked at the film as a metaphor for the dangers of sexual obsession, and fully appreciated it. In any case, the first 75% of the film is just as intense and beautifully crafted as ever. Updated On: 10/19/05 at 09:45 PM
