I missed the hilarity AND the Matt Morrison.

I don't remotely see either.

But I don't find it offensive... It's a stale joke that's been done since The Year One.

"Dude, you have no clue"......
well, that's one "dudes" opinion.

"The commercial makes fun of str8 guys trying not to look gay, but it never says there is anything wrong with that."

but it makes fun of them trying NOT to look gay....that, in itself says volumes, since it should NOT even be an issue.
Sorry, disagree. I don't have to be in Argentina to feel how I feel, "dude."

(thanks diva, it is fitting these days)

Elphaba, you can say w/e you felt like about the commercial, the question is, ***have you been to Argentina to be so opinionated about the country?****
I have heard from friends I have from Cuba, that they are not allowed to be homosexual there, and the same about many other Latin American countries, but that's absolutely not the way I feel in BA, I don't scream it out loud, but I don't do that here either. I mean, even my grandparents know about me.
I have never been to Cuba, so my statement is what I *heard*, all Im saying is that unless you've been and lived in Argentina for years, you shouldn't put words out there that are untrue.

ok

It is an Argentine commercial

The inference that "acting" gay, or being suspected of being gay is wrong exists in the commercial, or the commercial would make no sense.

From personal experience with Argentine straight friends, and other hispanic straight men it is apparent that the need to be "muy macho" sometimes exists (keyword sometimes), especially when dealing with gay men.

Now, I will admit these are older people, and not teens, or 20-somethings (no insult intended), so it may be a generational thing.

But I've lived through enough bad gay times to be offended by this, and you certainly do not need a nationality to feel that way.

It's a different world today....in the late 60's and 70's you would have been ostracized or worse letting friends in HS know. Maybe I, at time, are stuck in that when I see things like this.

I was out of line to single out the Argentine, but I stand by my take on it..The commercial, to me, is not funny, and puts us down.

just my 2 cents

Fair enough, yes, I seem to catch that vibe from Latin men in genereal too, I can't stand most of them when they try doing the "muy macho" attitude, but in Argentina in particular, we have terrible issues with corruption, and horrible things happen down there too, but when it comes to the gay thing, Buenos Aires has been named a "Gay Friendly Capital", my dad told me recently.
Still, Im sure we also have a few homophobes, of course, just not the majority. The new generation seems pretty open minded, indeed.

and, actually we are thinking of vacationing there in 2009. Everyone raves about how much fun BA is, the sites, how cheap, and just what a fun time they've had.

And we've gone no further south then Mexico

You should, it's such fun, Im going in a week.
They also have good Broadway shows, right now, Victor/Victoria, Sweet Charity, Cabaret and Doubt.

I have seen some of them and posted reviews, Doubt had a terrible set, but Sweet Charity was 1000 times better than the recent revival, plus it had the original Fosse choreography.
The good thing about BA is that you have subways, trains, cabs and buses, so transportation is pretty great, and so are the gay clubs!

By the way, since the topick of every thread is Hairspray, it opened this week, so I'll drag my mom and high school friends to see it! High School Musical and Chicago-The Movie- were huge hits, so I hope Hairspray does as well, Zac Efron has a following down there, so I am hoping for the best.

I know it's only a commercial, but it irritates me in real life when people think like that. With being gay, having herpes, preferring Wheaties, etc. and then counting the people in the room and concluding how many people must.

How can people truly be that stupid?

Hairspray. Zac Efron is hot and my age. We're going to get married. Hairspray. (Just following the rules.)

edit: This commerical is ACTUALLY funny.
