I know this is premature but who would you pick? My choice is Gavin Newsom of California.

I think it's much more likely that she will choose a Latino or African American running mate. Julian Castro is currently considered the most likely choice.

Castro would be a brilliant choice for Hillary (and I say that as one of this board's token conservatives).

I love the idea of Gavin Newsom. Every single time I hear him speak, I wonder when he's going to try to run for president.

Gavin Newsom has his sights set on California governor in 2018. He's already begun campaigning in earnest. I really don't see him being Hillary's choice. I'm in the Castro camp, myself.

I'd like to see both Newsom & Castro serve at least 1 term as governor of CA & TX respectively before entering presidential politics. One of the knocks against Obama is that his team and he were simply not ready to govern after winning the election. It took them too long to place key people as heads of certain federal agencies. I write this a fan of both Hillary and Obama. His long game has been impressive though.
Hillary needs someone on the ticket who can put OH, PA, and VA in the win column for the Dem's. She'd carry CA w/o Newsome. As PJ is fond of reminding us...it's all about 270!

PJ - very curious about your skepticism of Castro? Obviously he would not bring Texas, but he certainly is a good speaker and would appeal to a constituency.

Not at all skeptic...Julian Castro is a POTUS-in-the-making. He needs a little more TX-seasoning though and some separation from both Obama and Hillary. TX will need him when George P. Bush (son of Jeb) decides that the TX governorship is part of his inheritance. Ann Richards was the last non-GOP governor of that great state in what seems like a millennium ago.

Biden was the one I said who brings nothing to the 2016 ticket.

Picked Castro years ago - actually back then I just said one of the Castro brothers.

I hope you're wrong!
The one thing the GOP has going for it is youth. People look at the Democrats and they see a bunch of cranky old grandpas and one tough grandma. They Republicans seem to all be in their 40s, the way JFK and his brothers seemed young to the early baby boomers.
Castro would bring youth and a Latino heritage to the Democratic tickets, both of which they'll desperately need if Rubio is on the GOP ticket.

Maybe young was the wrong word; inexperienced perhaps to take over the president's seat if something should happen to her. Don't get me wrong. I like Castro. I am just trying to think like the voters who tend to be older.
