"Less would've been more."
Definitely Lopez's motto, historically.
I think maybe because the song was in spanish, they felt a need to "act" it out for the mostly non-spanish speaking audience. It had a tele-novella quality to it. (At first, when I saw the bed, I thought they were going to undress and end the song by doing the nasty. )I agree that it really wasn't necessary. Nonetheless, I thought they both did a nice job. Still, for me, the highlight of the evening was Melissa Etheridge's tribute to Janis Joplin.

I had to reread some of this thread-- people actually liked that performance last night? The set was horrible and utterly, completely unnecessary. Their performances were wooden and awkward to say the least. And that dress? My first thought was that she was pregnant and not hiding it at all-- then I began to wonder if perhaps she'd put it on upside down.
I'm completely indifferent to these two, but last night's performance sure didn't make me a fan.
When she started to brush her extension at the vanity I was done. It was just an awful performance and by that I mean it was awkward, was all over the place...and I am not talking about their singing. she WAS flat at times. he was good. I am not knocking them on singing at all.
Now if they wanted to act out the song so non Spanish speaking individuals understood the song..then it failed, cause I was more confused and I actually KNOW what the song is about and can understand Spanish. The song is about escaping and getting away from everyone else and it being just them...did you feel that? cause I felt they just wanted AWAY from each other..like they were in a lover's spat no? BUT if you defend that performance as something that was not a little painful to watch, then I think you are lying to yourself.
I didn't think she sang badly... She was better than I expected, though I don't believe that says much.

Neal Pollack over at Salon got off a great line this morning when he observed that "Mike Wallace & Morley Safer have more sexual chemistry than these two..."
The audience reception said it all. Near silence to tepid applause. Jlo and Marc should've recieved a greater response considering that was advertised as the big Grammys moment and their were some other horrible performances before (Black Eyed Peas,Gwen Stefani and Eve)
Thetruth-
Why didn't you like those two performances?
Gwen Stefani can't sing and both her and Eve sounded very winded even from the beggining of the performance. Love the song. Liked the theme/costumes/dancers...but this is the Grammys and they were part of the opening act. It just seemed so blah!
BEP, I hated that they kept coming back singing that d@mn song. I know it went well with the beggining of the show, but they didn't really put anything extra into it. Actually, their singing/rapping wasn't that bad, but I think in comparison to the Prince/Beyonce opening last year they were seriously disadvantaged. Also, the song has been out so long and didn't they do it last week at the SuperBowl? I guess I'm just tired of hearing it at every sporting event.
Yeah, I thought there was something sketchy about Stefani's vocals. It was double-tracked. You can hear the backing vocals colliding with her at times.
Personally, I love "Let's Get it Started". I never get tired of hearing it. :)
I didn't see that part of the show, but I'm assuming since it was Stefani and Eve they did Rich Girl? I love that song. Anyway, it's true - Gwen is not a good live singer. Definitely someone to listen to recorded and that's all. I love her for what she does, and I have many No Doubt cd's as well as Love Angel Music Baby, but I wouldn't pay to see her in concert.
My favorite songs on "Love Angel Music Baby" are 'Cool' and 'The Real Thing'. Really nice stuff.

I go back and forth from love/hate with Jenns Lopez. When she was on Oprah promoting 'Enough' I loved her and bought the remix album that had the 'Alive' song on it. Then I hated her for a while, thought she was fake and full of herself. Then she was on Actors' Studio with Lipton and I was impressed, so I liked her again.
However, did anyone see her on Ellen a few weeks ago? Ellen was on the set of Lo's new video 'Get Right', and Jennifer SERIOUSLY, not mock-jokingly treated Ellen incredibly rudely. Ellen was being her normal goofy self saying something off-the-wall and Jennifer just stood there, looking at the camera, rolling her eyes as if she was in agony. Then she goes "I think I have to go. I think they're calling me." and it was obvious that they weren't, but she was wishing they would. Even Ellen said "Ohh yea suure they need you", thinking Lo was playing around. Then Jen was just like, "Yea. I uh have to go." and just shuffled away.
The whole segment just hit me that she was a moody bitch towards someone who is trying to give her promotion on a highly rated talk show, and she really gave Ellen no respect. So...for the moment, I've lost my respect for J to the H-O.
Her appearance on The Actor's Studio made me dislike her more than I already do. I personally think her PR person is partially to blame for the overexposure, but only she has control over how she behaves towards others.
It's a shame. Everytime she was on a show, she used to talk about how much her fans meant to her. On "Revealed w/ Jules Asner", she also stated that she doesn't think she's a diva. It's sad that she's turned into this.
BTW,
I know it happens a lot at the Grammy's, but has any Oscar or Tony winner ever thanked their fans during their acceptance speech?
