fromage, also FWIW, on one of the reports I heard, it was mentioned that another rail worker tried to warn the guy right before it happened. They did not, however say why he wasn't able to get through to him.

Oh, I know!
Also, on a general basis, what scares me to death is that human error is something that happens in all walks of life. Sometimes, the consequences are comparatively minor, such as lots of red tape and paperwork, phone calls, etc, when an error is made in some business transaction or in some health insurance forms.
Or-human error can have dire consequences such as a health worker making a mistake in dosage, a number being off on a medical report, wrong patient's limbs being removed, etc.
We are lucky to be alive considering all the mistakes that are made by us humans on a daily basis.

One of the local news stations that I am getting here in my college town of New London CT ( I think it's the providence RI ABC channel) said that there were teens who reported getting texts from the train driver moments before the crash happened.
I think that it wouldn't be hard to figure out if he was texting or not. All they would have to do is check with his cell phone company. They have records of every single text you send and get because it has to go through them to get to you. And the text has to go through them to get sent to someone else.

This story just ended on the Early Show. They are going to investigate the phone records of the driver and the teenage train enthusiasts he was allegedly texting with to determine if that's what happened.
Sickening.

Jane, there's probably not a lot of texting going on under ground on the subways, even though some people seem to be able to get a signal (when I hear someone's phone ring on the subway and we're between two stops I'm like, whuh? But above ground, who can say?). But I'm sure the attention wanders on the job. I think employees pass the time by talking to each other--occasionally their casual conversations leak over the loudspeakers. At least they're not texting.

Let's hope not, gril! Especially if they come up with clear reception underground.

I remember Teenage Train Enthusiasts!
I think I saw it at the drive-in as a kid. Wasn't Michael Landon in that one?
