Me & some friends are coming to new york in april,
and we've heard rumours of actually nice & clean hostels (they dont seem to exist in the uk) for around $50 or so a night?
does anyone know of ahy hostels (or even cheap hotels/holiday apartments) we could look ionto
dont need anything flashy, just a bed and someplace to shower

If you go to Hostelworld.com, that can help you find a place for when you want, and you can get a sense of what other people who have stayed there thought. You also can book the rooms right on the website.
That said, I really liked the Times Square Dream Hostel. It's right on 9th Ave. behind the Port Authority bus terminal. It is only 2 blocks from Times Square, and 3 from Bryant Park. It was small and clean, but safe.

Posted: 1/16/09 at 11:00pmHostelling International is quite good, it's on the Upper West Site and is only a block from a subway station. I think it's around $40 a night give or take a little depending on what sized dorm you sleep in. I have also stayed at Broadway Hotel n Hostel which is around the same price and only 2 blocks from the same subway station, which I believe is on the 1(Red) line. That was pretty nice as well. otherwise just go on hostelworld.com or hostels.com and look at reviews
