Posted: 5/18/11 at 9:19pmI'm staying at the Hotel Edison for when i come up in July and I was wondering should I switch while I can? I got it on hotels.com for pretty cheap and it's refundable and I've had some misgivings after booking it. Anyone stay there and have any advice?

Potato pancakes on Wednesdays in the "Polish Tea Room" if things haven't changed.
Can't beat the location, haven't seen the rooms but it seems always well-attended.

Posted: 5/18/11 at 10:49pmI eat in the Polish Tea Room often and the food is food, while the service is very "New Yawky". The lobby is one of my favorite resting stops in the city. I've never been in the rooms, though.

Posted: 5/18/11 at 11:24pmI used to stay at the Edison before I moved to the city over six years ago. My friends and family actually still stay there to this day. Unfortunately, the bar on the ground floor closed back in the Fall. Apparently being renovated and turned into some ritzy wine bar. Too bad, as The Rum House was watering hole for not just tourists, but many a theatre folk.

east side,
it is open under new management and still called The Run House.. and far from a 'ritzy wine bar.' The new owners are heavily involved in the cocktail / mixology industry and do not focus on wines at all, but rather have a full bar and you can ask them about any of the specialty drinks they have created that have placed / won many a local and national competition. Full disclosure, the new owners are an acquaintance of a good friend of mine and the few times I have been, I have been well taken care of and cant common much on price difference, but the crowd was very mixed between tourists / hotel guests, locals and business people and there was live music at around 7pm.

See what kind of rate you can get from the Belvedere Hotel. It's two blocks up on 48th across 8th Avenue.

east side,
Was this before or after the old Rum House folded or after the new one opened? If it happened before, she was probably repeating rumor.. if it was a waitress of the new establishment (though I don't recall waitresses off the top of my head.. it's been about 6 weeks since I've been in..), she might have been trying to push bottle service, but I can 100% confirm that the selection of booze and the owners and bartenders do NOT have a focus on wines, but will no doubt have a quality selection.
