I got a booking for the Hotel Edison and I was wondering what to expect. i only paid $199 but I'm still wondering how it is, since the booking can be cancelled and is refundable. I'm not expecting anything mind-blowing just nice for 1 night. Thanks.
Check the reviews at Trip Advisor. They are very honest.
I haven't stayed at the hotel but be sure to check out the piano bar. It was very nice. The pizza was delicious and Leslie Kritzer was there. We were singing together and someone asked me what show I was in.

That happens to this one short woman I used to know when she's just walking down the street!
The EDISON COFFEE SHOP! Matzoh Ball Soup! Giganto blintzes, ****ty, but cheap burgers, Bway stars! Seedy atmosphere (formerly, the ballroom of the Edison Hotel, waaaay long ago)
Been going here since 1970. "The Polish Tea Room". If you have to ask?, you don't REALLY know NY. A B'way institution. (Also), the piano bar, right across the hall, has recently been refurbed. But I sorta like it the old, seedy way. By happy that you're in the middle of the Theatre district, tunneling between 47th and 46th St! Eat in the Edison a lot, or have a cup of coffee and you're bound to run into many stars, etc., in a super casual way.

Haven't stayed there in years, but it was fine. Nice for one night. Nothing special. Decent, clean, no frills. Great location for seeing shows.

That's the impression I got when I was there back in 2009. Like I said - Kritzer was there the night I went. Someone said that a lot of people from shows came in from time to time.
I stay there all the time. It's old school, a little frayed around the edges, but clean and comfortable, friendly staff, and decent size rooms for the price. I haven't had a bad stay.
The last time I stayed there was in the 90's. It was ok. Nothing fancy but it was clean.
I tell everyone to stay at the Hotel @ Times Square. Super cheap, but very modern and clean and close to theatres. I recently got it for 139 a night.
Thank you BB, you just saved me almost $150 on my other reservation for this coming weekend!!!! I got two nights @ $179.
I like the way everyone said that it can be a hot spot for Broadway actors, I'm more excited now! I wasn't expecting much bit it sounds fine. Thanks everyone.
Hotel Edison is nice. Decent. Nothing fancy and nothing awful. GREAT location.
But the BEST part is Cafe Edison. It's the diner in the lobby (down the hall from the piano lounge/restaurant). Not only is it good food at a good price, but it's the hot spot for those who work in the theatre industry. Dining at the Edison Cafe I have seen Nathan Lane, Kevin Chamberlain, the cast of La Cage, Matthew Morrison, Lillias White, Greg Jbara, and countless others. Needless to say, I eat there often. At least one brunch a week is spent there.
The only caveat to newbies about the Edison Cafe is that it is a sacred space for actors. Its where they eat between shows, unwind and regroup. I've seen Carole Shelley reading and eating, the Luker/Burstein family dining between shows, Sutton Foster and many others. It's not ok to stare or ask for anything from the actors. It's their downtime. Just thought I'd mention that.
Excellent addition, Bettyboy.

The Edison lobby is a good place for me to sit and read when I have a gap between appointments in the city. It's clean and attractive.
I stayed there about 6 years ago . It was a very hard bed. I would also make sure your room is not in the lower floors as the street tends to get quire noisy. For one night.. should be ok. ( these days when I stay in hotels I bring my own bedding)
