When I worked in the city, every Christmas Season I used to buy about $ 100 on Toys For Tots

Now I work in a deserted area in Queens. In my church, they have a drive to send all sorts of personal items to the troops in the mid east. I put many videos I had on DVD & spent about $ 100 & bought stuff listed by them as to what they need & request. I also took a name off the Church Tree & got a 1 year old boy who I bought a toy for.

It makes you feel good on the holidays to do something nice for a kid who may have nothing for Christmas & for our soldiers enduring God knows what. No matter what your feelings are for Bush, these people need to be supported & not merely by lip service. If you can do something similar, do it. It makes you feel worthwhile

It makes you feel very good, and is a wonderful suggestion for all of us.

My company participates in the Toys for Tots drive, and I always take a child's name to send a gift to, but I love the idea of sending something special to our Troops.

Thank you for sharing that idea...

Does this count? In my school, theres a play and people were asked to bring canned food and other stuff for charity when they come. There were BOXES BEYOND BOXES of stuff and it was soo much! All in 2 days!

It really does feel good to do things like that. I always participate in my church's Giving Tree and my school's food drive. The Giving Tree always makes me feel like a better person to be helping the less fortunate.

yeah my church has Giving Tree's too,and we do that every year, I remember when i was like 4 and i found out the purpose for the Giving Tree, I felt so bad about all those little kids that I too all the stars, which were a good 40 and brought them in my car, and when i got home with my dad i showed my mom and said "We have to buy everything here"....we bought 10 toys lol but i wanted to buy 40 hehe

and my school always always has drives for eye glasses, socks, canned food, sweaters, baby blankets, stuff like that for the homeless

But MR Roxy, thanks so much for posting. It's such a meaningful thing to donate and I think everyone should do it cuz its not like you feel bad after it (OMG IS THAT A COMMERCIAl? hah)

For the last few years, in December, 6 schoolfriends and I (and our teacher) organize a Christmas Dinner for all the elderly people in the area. We harass as many people as we can to give us free stuff - like caterers to provide the meal, and liquor stores to provide booze (very important). And we always trek around all the stores badgering them for free gifts, and don't stop until we have a present for everyone. And usually we're able to con some bands to provide music, so we lay out the school hall for a banquet, and suck unsuspecting parents into collecting all the people coming. It's always fantastic, and the old folks have a wonderful time. We're rushed off our feet every year running to and fro with whiskeys, but it's worth it because we feel so great the next day! And they always organize a little collection for us, sending a hat around, which they present to us at the end, which is so sweet.

Every winter, my school's (Winona State) Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble called "The Holiday for the Hungry Concert" where the admission fees are to bring in food to be given to the local food pantries to be distributed to the struggling families in the area. And every year, more and more food is donated and the auditiorium is packed almost beyond capacity. We get hundreds of pounds of food and it DOES feel wonderful knowing that doing something as simple as playing a holiday song can help someone out.

On a different note, when I went to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra on Wednesday night, one of the heads of the band gave a few dollars off of every ticket sold back to the community to help and I thought that was absolutely fantastic and something they totally didn't need to do re: I Am Feeling Good
