I have a district competition coming up, and I need to find a duet for a guy and a girl.
Please help
"On The Rise" from Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog. Look it up; it's amazing, and it's new, so there's not much of a chance that they'll have heard it before.
"Unworthy of Your Love" from Assassins
"Sirens" from Jane Eyre. (An underrated song, one of my favourites)
"Legally Blonde" from "Legally Blonde" (NOT the reprise)
"I'll Know," "Sue Me," or "I've Never Been In Love Before" from Guys and Dolls.
"All 'Er Nuthin'" from Oklahoma (It's funny!)
"The Song That Goes Like This" from Spamalot (This song is HILARIOUS, especially if it's performed correctly.)
"Point of No Return" from Phantom of the Opera (or "All I Ask of You," if that's more your cup of tea.) These are cliches, but they're still fun to do, and they have that magical ability of making almost any singer sound good performing them.
Too bad it HAS to be a guy and a girl, or you could do "Confrontation" from Les Miserables! That would be amazing!
Another fun one is the "Elephant Love Medley" from Moulin Rouge.
Schmerg- you have made some great suggestions. I looked some of them up because I hadn't heard of some. Is On the Rise considered Broadway/off-Broadway (please forgive my ignorance). I, too, loved the Sirens song!
Thanks! "On The Rise" is actually neither Broadway NOR off-Broadway; it's actually from a musical that was filmed for the internet, created by Joss and Jed Whedon and starring Neil Patrick Harris. Since the OP just said he wanted a duet, I didn't know whether it had to be from a genuine 'Broadway' musical. But my brother and I love that song. You can find "Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog" by going to www.drhorrible.com, or looking it up on that-site-which-shall-not-be-named.
This sounds like the competition is more on the side of classical legit singing. (correct me if I'm wrong.) So you might want to stay with something classic, like "People Will Say We're in Love" from Oklahoma or something along those lines.

Do not do HSM if you want to seem credible at all.
"Unworthy of Your Love" would be awesome, but if you've got the talent and guts for a Sondheim piece, I think that "Move On" is one of the single most beautiful duets ever (although, I know, the girl gets the actual verse to herself...) How long does it have to be?
