I think we're getting away from the topic.

I just wanted to say that I'd never, ever been close to my sister. My coming out to her was absolutely key to our now having a close friendship.

One wouldn't have happened without the other.

Never forget to give your loved ones the opportunity to pleasantly surprise you!

Congratulations. Remember that parents want what they believe is best for their children. That doesn't mean it is what's best, but they believe it is. They also don't want their children to be troubled by anything, and your coming-out to them may have them worried for you. There is also the initial disappointment at the loss of what they believed would be your life. A typical life. Give them time. I believe most parents, unless they are mentally unbalanced, are ultimately happy that their child is happy. I'm a parent, and I know that's how I'd be.

A thousand congratulations! I'm an Oxymoron; that is a Gay Catholic. I can only assume that it's very close to being a Gay Mormon. Don't give up your faith. Work within it to bring about change. Send me a PM if you ever need someone to talk to.

Congratulations on taking a bold and honest step!

Johnboy is right. I know it isn't what I'd wish for my son. Because it would make his life more difficult in alot of ways. But ultimately I want him to be happy, so that would be what matters most of course.

Well done! Just because the world is liberalising doesn't mean that coming out is a simple walk in the park, and I admire you very much for making the decision to be truthful and bold, even knowing that there's now a lot of hard work to come. We may just be names on a message board, but there's a beating heart behind every name on this site, and you will always find love and support here if you're ever having a rough time. *hugs*

Congratulations! That's so fantastic!!!! I hope you're in an environment where you're not threatened with physical harm. And I hope you have a strong, loving support system.

Re advice, every situation is different but here's mine: My parents are extremely religious (Seventh-Day Adventists) and we're all very close. They said they supported me but worried about my soul (real nice). I noticed "save-your-soul" rhetoric kept creeping into conversation. I had to be very tough on them and remind them constantly that the bible is full of contradictions, that this is not a phase and more importantly, I LOVE being gay and I'm happy being who I am. It took a while but they've come around. They're all over my husband. Unfortunately, now that they no longer think gays are going to hell, they're at us to go to church. One set of woes for another...

Be strong, be proud, be safe and most of all be happy!
