To open an etsy shop. It's very inexpensive to run, and it's fun.
I have an etsy shop too! However, I 'm delinquent in keeping it up to date.

"SHILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "
LOL, it's true, even though you're joking. I joined into the sameless promoting of the evening~
The ducks are cute, no? thanks Blue and Marianne.
Love your photography!
Technically, the promotion was mostly me digging up old threads looking for Etsy shops... I have an addiction!
I put my etsy shop out there mainly because the prices are so low. When I first joined etsy, I had no idea what my prices would be, and after browsing the place, I priced mine along with most of the other photographers.
Flowery, don't you find etsy to be a good place for gifts?
To be honest... I've only purchased 4 things on Etsy so far, and they've all been for me!
But yes, I think I can do some of my holiday shopping this way. I found some great politician finger puppets that I think my friend might love. :)

If I may ask...
Do you really gets sales this way?
I may have to rethink my Flickr
Yawper, I noticed that certain items get more sales than others. For instance, consumables really sell-note paper, candles, things that you can use or wear.
I noticed that permanent things like paintings and photographs, which you must find a place for in the home, don't sell as well.
However, if you're an active business person, and keep on top of things, there are ways to promote yourself and increase sales. Me-I'm the worst businessperson and do nothing to increase sales. I don't even check my etsy shop very often. I only know I got a sale if I'm emailed about it! o y.
Q-thanks for the bump!
Thanks for the tips. I do a ton of photography for fun and have considered etsy for a while. Do you find your work is paying for itself or at least, is the exposure worth the etsy fees and the experience?
The cost is minimal, Lizzie. I think it's .20 per listing. In my experience, you have to work to get exposure. If you don't advertise and promote, not too many people will see your work, as there are thousands of artists on etsy.
However, there are many artists who are making a living off sales on etsy, so don't be hampered by me-go for it!
