I just LOVE a good eating disorder sit-com!

As Roz once said:

Holy merde!

Personally, I've watched so many eating disorders happen to friends that they taught me how to find the gallows humor in it. But I don't know if this would fly with the general public.

Sounds HI-LARIOUS. What's next? A sitcom about heroin addicts? Now THAT would be comedy.

I'm not even going to touch this one.

Wow - I recall when the reivial of NINE opened, many internet chatters were commenting on how Benanti, while quite thin in general, had terribly fat calves and thick ankles, and that the costumer should have put her in a long skirt, like the character of Claudia wore in the original, rather than a mini-dress.

This sounds like a very bad idea.

Four characters with eating disorders. So, they'll touch base on anorexia (benanti), bulimia, and binge eating. Is there a fourth disorder I'm neglecting...?

Aw, damn, and I've always dreamed of being on a sitcom where I played a bulimic broadway star! They stole my thunder.

That little article didn't really say much to make me interested. An anorexic bisexual folk singer? Yawn...

And why would I, pop? There was nothing offensive in the Playbill article. But you seem on a mission to start trouble? Why is that?

All I can say is eeek. Young girls already have enough trouble with this.

Mominator, I officially love you.

True, I highly doubt a show about beautiful girls with eating disorders if going to curb the ever growing amount of girls (and some boys) with this horrible affliction.

re: i just love a good eating disorder sit-com!

It's not our culture that causes these eating disorders - studies show it's an inner control problem. However - it doesn't HELP to have a show out there talking about the disorders and the practices of same.

re: i just love a good eating disorder sit-com!

Thanks littlefish! Well it is true it isn't all a culture thing. But when all you see are pencil thin models on the runways and in the magazines and on television, it really does play havoc on an already insecure youth. I had a friend who died from anorexia, she was such a woderful girl, bright and smart with to die for blue eyes and curly red hair. She always thought she should lose more weight, because she wasn't a size 3.

Thanks hon! At her wake, several of us were chatting. We went to a verrrry small prep school, so everyone knew everyone, and no one can ever remember having luch with her or even remember her being in the caf.
That what makes eating disorders so scarry, family and friends are so powerless

WOW... I can't believe THAT is the premise for a comedy? It's such a sensitive topic (as apparent even from this thread), but I guess it can be good if it raises awareness. I don't know about this.....

re: i just love a good eating disorder sit-com!

I think that poking fun of eating disorders is sinking very low here. I am ashamed to see it on this message board. All eating disorders are serious and life threatening illness that require medical intervention. Tell me, would someome like to see a sitcom about cancer, heart disease or HIV? I dont think so. As awoman who has been battling obesity for many years, I have been the subject of many cruel jokes. Until the past few years, I didnt even know that I could be treated surgically. Until, I have that that surgery { very soon} my life is on the line because of the comorbidities associated with obesity. Life is such a precious gift...........please respect it.

Hey - we aren't making fun at all. We are discussing a proposed sitcom starring Laura Benanti that was mentioned in Variety today. If you read the posts, you will see that none of us are amused by the concept.

re: i just love a good eating disorder sit-com!

Actually, to some extent it is society that causes eating disorders. There's a reason they're many, many times more prevalent in societies with more media exposure.

I think robbiej's first post says it all

daisy - the 4th disorder is compulsive overeating --

"People suffering with Compulsive Overeating have what is characterized as an "addiction" to food, using food and eating as a way to hide from their emotions, to fill a void they feel inside, and to cope with daily stresses and problems in their lives."
