So does her parents really like Friends and Sienfeld?
Congrats and welcome to the new world baby Phoebe. Get her some showtunes to start her life out right. My aunt had a baby in October, and I made him a CD with all of my favorite mellow tunes on them...its a great gift!
Play him Anthony Warlow songs from day 1.
OOPS !! I just noticed the typo....my mind has been a little flighty lately. She was 7 pounds.
But 17 pounds would REALLY be news, huh?
I am greatly relieved!
And, congrats again! When do you get to meet her?

Ohhh thank goodness, I was worried there for a bit! 7 pound is way more like it. YAY for you.
The earliest chance I'll probably get to see her is next summer. My time off is booked until then, so maybe my brother and his wife can come up to Chicago, which would be great.
Congratulations! Isn't it the best? I love being an aunt, and the pic of the baby in my avatar is my beautiful nephew during the winter season last year. Now he's two and talking up a storm.
Congrats! U now get to enjoy influencing the growth & development of a human being w out (most of )the responsibility! Start playing show tunes to her now- a future audience member!
Well, we received a bit of a shock today. It turns out my niece was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. There's no way of knowing how severe it will be at this point. Luckily, my brother, as usual, embraces the news in stride. He said that a certain percentage of children are born with Downs and they need homes, so his is as good as any. My brother has always lived life with the "making lemonade" philosophy and has proven it time and again which is one of the many reasons I admire him. In addition, my mother has a degree in psychology and spent years working with children with mental disabilities and birth defects, so she will be able to help out a lot. My brother's wife is devastated at the moment, but knowing my brother, he'll be incredibly supportive and loving.
I'm still a bit shook up at the moment, but I'm grateful that Phoebe has a family like ours to look forward to and I can't wait to meet her.
thats sad. hopefully it wont be that bad. Austin... i love austin. i live near there.
Thanks Caroline-Q-or-TBoo.
If anyone here has any experience with Downs children, I would really love to hear from them if they're willing to share.

Matt.........She has everything she already needs. A loving family and an uncle who loves her and will spoil her rotten!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I have 7 beautiful nieces, and I love them all so much!!!
I have had experience with Downs children, both in the famly and out. They are wonderful, happy, sweet-natured and friendly as a general rule. They require just as much love and attention as other children, and give just as much back. They just requirte a little extra TLC.
Good luck, and congratulations!
I'm sure you'll be a wonderful uncle!
Thanks so much for the wonderful comments. I have no doubt Phoebe will be absolutely smothered in unconditional love. My biggest concern is the challenge that my brother and his wife will be facing. It's my brother's first child, though he has a 2 year-old stepson. It will take a few years to know the severity of the Downs and I know how difficult it will be for them. Luckily, I come from a very loving and supportive family that will do everything we can for them.
