I'm confused ...

and please forgive my ignorance, but my understanding is that a "sock puppet" is one of multiple online personas created by people who want to instigate trouble in a bulletin board, such as this one. Correct?

Because of my trusting nature and having been taken a couple of times, I tend to not trust people here until I have some background on them or I can verify something about who they are.

SO, my question is: if someone's identity can easily be verified, would they still be considered a sock puppet? What is a sock puppet?

DayDreamer, I think the definition is even more simple: someone who is pretending to be a brand-new member; when in fact that person has been on the boards before under a different name.

This place always seems to break out in a rampant case of crazy around Christmas time.

I'm a sock puppet.

But only because I had a senior moment one day and forgot my password for logging onto this place. So, in some cases sock puppets are trying to mislead you and in other cases they're just...... OLD.
