The animal lover in me is horrified by what I see, but the 'mo in me kinda thinks it's fabulous.

Extreme dog styling
Their owners should be forced to get the same haircuts.
I really don't approve... It's just too much!
No. Just... no.

Maybe it's just for special occasions? Only the first one seems truly unhappy.
I'll happily video anyone trying to do that to my cats. Luckily I live across the street from the hospital!
This is akin to animal cruelty.
It's just so wrong.
Strongly disapprove.
That zoo in China should take some lessons.. :)

They actually have grooming contests like this. Not that I really would want to do that to my dog, that's what these crazy cuts and colors are for. I saw something a year or 2 ago on TLC (Not surprising) about it. I think the dye is made from vegetables, so it washes right out. But, I do feel for the dog who ends up walking around with uneven hair or ends up getting it all shaved off until the next contest. I would certainly not want to do that on a regular basis, if at all.

Liza...the animals in the video link you posted do not appear to be in distress. They are clean, most likely well fed, receiving attention...etc
This is no different than any other hobby.
If you want to talk about cruelty lets talk about Toddlers and Tiaras with the parents feeding the kids pixie sticks nonstop.
Doing to this is not my thing but hardly something worth having a crisis over.

It's completely unnecessary. There is no reason and it doesn't benefit the animals. To me, that's enough. It's a low threshold... but I'm sensitive about it. Would love to hear SNAFU's thoughts.
My thoughts? I have a hard time when the groomers have to cut my Poms short because they hate being brushed. I have fired many a groomer over the years. I find the aesthetics of these cuts very questionable.
I know my dogs are very aware on how they look. When they are groomed well and know it they will actually vogue for people to show themselves off, Dash in particular.
I am sort of turned off by these creations, not knowing the individual animals it is hard to say what their reaction to them are. If they like the pampering and attention, then fine. If they feel awkward and uncomfortable afterward (likesome animals do when they are forced to wear jackets and shoes), then I would considerate abusive.
For me I find it just plain tacky.

Animal abuse to me is if these people tried to groom their dogs like Mama June (Honey Boo Boo's mom) cause you can't put a dog in a hefty bag.
"It's completely unnecessary. There is no reason and it doesn't benefit the animals."
That's not a definition of cruelty, at all.
None of the animals seem bothered by it. It's just a haircut and color.
Just another reason for people to clutch pearls.

We all have different personal thresholds. It cracks me up that someone would find reason to try and disqualify another's threshold. I see it as abuse, and you don't. Great. Different strokes for different folks.
"It cracks me up that someone would find reason to try and disqualify another's threshold."
No one is disqualifying it. I'm just saying that your definition of animal abuse is not THE definition of animal abuse.

Fair enough, Diva. If I were being technical and chose to conform to whatever the actual definition is, then yes. You would be correct. I personally find it abusive, though.
The first dog is dyed eight different colors and has plastic flowers and butterflies glued on its ass.
Let's look at the owner dolled up the same way.
The link I posted at the bottom of my original post is easy to miss, but this is an annual dog grooming contest.
The dogs are pampered and loved by their owners.
