I really should stay updated on my own posts.....**hangs head in shame**
seems to me that this is a topic that most people deal with.
And that being said, I'm truly happy as I am. Well, sort of. I mean, I'm not making it my life's goal to be thin, but sometimes it's depressing to be the only one of my friends who has to shop in the "plus" section at old navy sometimes.
But you know, I've thought about this alot and I think that in all reality, audience perceptions aside, it matters for some shows, but not for others. I mean, obviously you couldn't have a size three in "Hairspray", but why would it matter if, oh...i don't know, Maria in WSS is a bigger lady?
If it is important to the story it should matter, but if not, I don't see why, in an age of "color-blind" casting, they should have "weight or appearance-blind" casting also.
Pick the best person for the part. Don't pick based on the width of an actors ass.

Was that a fat joke?

I think the difference here is that race is inherent, while being overweight is perceived as being a matter of choice. (And no, I'm not saying that it *always* is, or ignoring underlying medical issues that some individuals may have...) But really, for the most part, one is overweight due to eating too much and exercising too little.

What about all those poor actresses who just don't get cast because they have no talent? Why should they be punished because people dance or act better than they do? It's not their fault! Don't kid yourself, people are sometimes "best" for the part because they have the Best Ass. And amen for men like Namo who'd rather date Jason Alexander than Matthew Morrison (give me a call sometime, Namo!), but by and large, people prefer to look at physically fit bodies.

Oh well, my advice would be stay the way you are! Let's face it, actors are rejected about 20 times more than they are accepted. This way, every time you are not cast you can go home and say "I was the best one, but they wanted to cast a THIN girl!"

Love yourself, honey. Different, not cookie-cutter, is beautiful.

However, I love the people who "casually" mention that Shoshana is bigger than Idina was, or that they didn't believe Sara Ramirez in Spamalot, because she was too big to seem desirable and crap like that.

Ignore stupidity.

There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

How can you compoare lack of talent to weight?? You didn't make your point. And just because people are cast because the yhave a "nice ass", that makes it okay? We should just "accept" it? Sorry, this is a touchy subject for me, because i'm a good 25-30 pounds overweight and it's NOT from overeating. And, since when does being skinny=healthy? Mary-Kate is skinny, but not in a healthy way. Marissa Jaret Winokur has a few extra pounds on her, but she is perfectly healthy and much more pleasing to look at that Mary-Kate. *steps down off of soapbox* Thank you.

A bigger girl won't play Maria. She even refers to herself as 'delicate-boned' in the script. Would that were not the case...but it is.

The best advice I can give anyone is, no matter what size you are, can you physically go through a 2 month rehearsal process, a one month preview period (while still rehearsing during the day) and a year run of 8 shows a week?

If not, then it doesn't matter what size you are. Actors (all actors) should be at the gym several times a week to keep their stamina up and their immune systems healthy. I stopped going for a while and put on a number of pounds. I'm now back, losing weight, toning muscle and building stamina because of my upcoming show. It's imperative to be mentally and physically fit in this business.
