"I'm so bored with the USA...

... but what can I do?" -- Joe Strummer

If you're bored with the USA, I don't think the old "move to Canada" solution is going to work.

re: 'I'm so bored with the USA...

Oh believe you me, I thought of that before it was trendy. In fact, two Easters ago I spent a lovely long weekend in Montreal and decided that city was to be my new home. I looked into immigrating, even considered going for citizenship. Unfortunately, they're looking for immigrants in specific industries, in which I have zero experience no matter how much I pad my resume. And also, they want you to be able to speak French. So I took a French class but I was really merdey. I mean, what a wacky lingo. I just wanted a simple job, like Towel Man at Le 5017 or Le Bronx. But alas, mon cherie, it was not to be.

My best friend is the chef at a restaurant in downtown Montreal. Perhaps I can speak to him about hiring you?

Hell, maybe I'll move there, too. I mean, I do have a culinary degree that should be put back to use.

Je parle francias comme une vache espagnol. So maybe I'd manage. Como no, Papi?

re: 'I'm so bored with the USA...

Si, Jose, you'd do tres bon there, I'm sure. But for your friend to be able to hire an American, he would have to prove that there aren't any qualified Canadians to do the job.

re: 'I'm so bored with the USA...

I'm guessing they're looking for computer programmers, engineers, people in the hard sciences, stuff like that?
#8

re: 'I'm so bored with the USA...

Not computer programmers but definitely engineers and definitely the hard sciences. Apparently, they have enough lit majors.

Minor details, Namo. Minor details.

He and I always talked of running our own restaurant.

This idea is now becomming intriguing.

A French-Italian(he's Italian born in Montreal-Cuban restuarant. Hmmm.

Yummmmy.

But do they have enough Cuban-American cooks? That's the question.

Given that Canadians can travel to Cuba, I bet the do have access to some cooks.

I think it says, "United States of Canada" and "Jesusland."

Hehe. Jesusland. That sounds kind of like an amusement park.

re: 'i'm so bored with the usa...

namo, i'd like to invite you on a day trip to jesusland. we'll start off our wicked wednesday at the waterworld: sodom and gomorrah showers. after that it's a hop, skip and a jump (emphasis on the skipping, i just love skipping) over to the sports complex for a mid-morning match of lions v. christians (i won't spoil it for you, but they do markedly worse than that guy in china did the other day). once we've gorged ourselves, visited the vomitorium and are feeling sufficiently chastised for giggling at the lions for feuding over appendages, we can stop by the scourgings. or if you're not up for bondage that early in the day we can just head off to my favorite the all you can drink water into wine wednesday wedding jamboree. if we get there by 3 we'll have seats near the stage for the big pat boone/toby keith/kristen chenoweth finale and be drunk enough not to be completely revolted. c'mon, namo, whattaya say? jesusland can be fun if you have the right guide!

Wow! Reading that description Papa I feel as if I am playing Mystery Date and landed on The Dream (aaaah!). Fantastic. No worries, with you, I'm always up for some bondage. We will need to have a safe word, and it probably shouldn't be "ow."

Westoworld, making fun of Canada is so 1999, and so stupid. It's a civilized place and everyone I've ever spoken to there has been extremely nice and thoughtful. No one I've ever met there would make a derogatory comment about the US, at least around people from the US. You seem to not care that there are Canadians who post here. And I'm sure, geographically speaking, they would find it preferrable to be a hat than a toilet seat, as we could conceivably be described as theirs.

Obviously TrueBloW, I have looked into leaving. It's profoundly Ugly American of you to just assume that other countries would be delighted to let people from this country right on in. And since the object would be the LEAVE the US, Iraq, the 51st state, would be out of the question for me.

Namo ~ I'm a Canadian, work in immigration, and single. You seem to want an easy to way to relocate. After that post, wanna marry me?

It's easy, cuz unlike many people around these parts who post things "just to get people riled up," I write what I mean. Making fun of Canada for not being the US is like Velveeta making fun of boursin for not being cut in blocks and being packaged in shiny metallic paper.

Where I'm from, :-p implies sarcasim.
I'd say you just described a thoroughly boring land in the North. What's more exciting than having half the country at odds with each other, jumping to comclusions based on their own intelligent decisions?
Also, have you ever been to Quebec? Because I have. If you aren't speaking French, good luck getting good service.
