Just list your favorite 70s pop songs. I need to pick one to play in the background of a scene for class, but I can't think of any right now
I mean, I guess one of my favorites is The Year of the Cat, Al Stewart, but I want another....!! Thanks.

Posted: 8/15/07 at 3:48pmThere were a million 70's songs and all but "Disco Duck" and "Pacman Fever" are better than what passes for music today. What's happening in the scene?

Ok, it's for an acting class, it's like a "to find" exercise, I create the setting, scenario, it's in preparation for a scene I'll be doing next week. The one thing I must do is pick a song from the 70s as kind of a white noise filler...

Posted: 8/15/07 at 3:59pmHAHA nooo. In a sense I suppose, but it has to be loud enough and awesome enough to "affect" me and whoever joins me on stage. So Love Will Keep Us Together would totally work.

Good chocie.
Love, love will keep us together
Think of me babe whenever
Some sweet talking girl comes along singing her song
Don't mess around,
You gotta be strong
Just Stop [stop], 'cause I really love You
Stop [stop], I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together
You, You belong to me now
Ain't gonna set you free now
When those girls start hanging around talking me down
Hear with your heart and you won't hear a sound
Just Stop [stop], 'cause I really love you
Stop [stop], I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together, what ever.
Young and beautiful
Someday your looks will be gone
When the others turn you off
Who'll be turning you on
I will, I will, I will, I will
Be there to share forever
Love will keep us together
Said it before and I'll say it again while others pretend
I'll need you now and I'll need you then
Stop 'cause I really love Ya
Stop I'll be thinking of Ya
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

Ahah, wow Borstal. You are my new best friend.
Umm, doesn't matter. I guess mid-late, but the early stuff was pretty good too.
DAME, I'm singing along. (I will, I will...)

Posted: 8/15/07 at 4:14pmHearing Love will Keep us Together on Sirius today was what made me realize how great the music was- that was a BAD song in the 70's and when you hear it now you realize it's a perfect lyric, perfect arrangement, gorgeous vocal- that background vocal singing "Sedaka's Back!" in the fade out! what a blast!

I never like to choose music randomly.
You wouldn't choose your set or costumes randomly for a play either, would you?
Exactly what part of that 10-year era would be crucial information. The music of '72 wasn't remotely like the music of '78, for instance. It was a very volatile decade, with a lot of growth, and changes in attitudes, social behavior, music, etc. So it makes a huge difference.
And even if it's "white noise filler" it's contributing to the overall effect of your scene. You can pick something appropriate that compliments it... or better yet, plays against it. Picking something "serene" and innocuous can often work well against a heated/dramatic moment on stage.
Lots to consider... because your "audience" will hear it regardless... even faintly and subliminally. Music is very important.

Bennie and the Jets is fun...more are coming to me now that I'm in the zone. Carol King had a bunch too, I Feel The Earth Move, Where You Lead..
best12, I hear you. I still have a lot of work to do. It's helpful to have a large number of favorites to pick and choose from, but I will indeed need to specify what I really need for the exercise. Thank you for caring though :)
