Okay, next year I plan on directing a play in the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Festival (I'm currently assistant directing one) and I'm trying to pick in advance what show I would like to do.
Quick guidelines:
1. Can't be a musical
2. Must be under 40 minutes.
Preferably, I'd like cut a longer show down, because most of the one-acts are really over-done. It needs to be a show with a decently large cast (6 or 8 principal roles would be great, with a few minor roles with ensemble)
So, my question is: What show do you think would work in a 40 minute time constraint that would be appealing to high school students, but has enough substance to possibly win the festival.
Any suggestions would be helpful! I was thinking MAYBE Six Characters in Search of an Author or Pygmalion (play that My Fair Lady is based on).. but more options would be great.

Maceman - girls! I've got two, possibly three guys that I could feel comfortable putting in big roles. I have probably 5 or 6 girls that I could!
And Enchanted April Act 2 wouldn't be bad!

Why Do We Laugh? by Stephen Gregg. 4 girls, 4 guys. I'm currently directing it for one acts at my school and it's fantastic.
