I completely agree with you! There was very little of the joking and sometimes "snarky" Bella and Edward. Every line was so serious. I guess maybe the compressed time line caused things to be a little more pressing.

I also wish they would have added in a little more of Bella's intelligence and self-sufficiency. I know one of the biggest complaints people had about the books was that Edward was always protecting her and she was just a "damsel in distress". Upon re-reading Twilight, Bella really doesn't come across that way to me. She is a match for Edward in biology class, and it's her idea to head to Phoenix to outwit James. The movie didn't really make a point of these qualities, leaning more to the "Edward will save me" side.
