I think I just saw a future president

As a Republican, I'll give him that he was very eloquent indeed.

Wasn't he amazing?

I was extremely impressed by his speech and the way he handled all those topics. I eagerly await his stint in the senate.

I've mentioned earlier that I've been doing telephone polls ever sunce my accident. I didn't know who Barack Obama was until his name popped up on one of our questionaires. EVERYONE we spoke to that night was extremely enthusiastic about him--Republicans and Democrats. Unfortuneately, I didn't see or hear his speech tonight because I was at the phone banks.

I think we are looking at the first black president.

Barak Obama is my man.
It's too bad the Repubicans can't find someone to run against him. He was running 20 points ahead of Jack "I tried to force my hot wife to have sex in front of strangers - what's wrong with that?" Ryan, and now no one wants to enter a race they can't win. After Obama wins the senate seat, there will always be Republicans who will say, "He only won because we couldn't get a good candidate soon enough".

Barack Obama was amazing. He gave a speech that rallied the crowd, and the theme was uniting the country. It's not surprising that no major republican would want to run against him for the Senate seat. He's an eloquent speaker, positive, intelligent, everything our idiot president isn't.
It wouldn't surprise me either if he didn't become president some day.

The first black President will probably be a Republican, sadly. Nothing against Obama- he gave a good speech. But this country is just conservative that way (in the general sense, not the political sense). A black President would feel "safer" if he were Republican.

As a Jewish man, myself, can I say that we need a Jewish president? The country would finally have a balanced budget!

I never did get that Jews and money thing. I know where it originated, but still.
But then, I'm not a real Jew. I'm Israeli. :)

The majority of women and black people in this country vote for Democrats. If the Republicans put a black person or a woman at the head of the ticket, it would take away a lot of votes that they normally wouldn't get. Many will ignore the issues and vote for him/her simply to have a black person or woman as president.

Oh no, magruder. I was just adding on to plum's comment about the first black president being Republican.

With Obama you get a candidate who, when Republicans look at him, don't see 'another Democrat', but a strong, honest man with great ideas and outstanding charisma.
He crosses over party lines and connects to everyone, even better than John McCain.

He's barely out there yet, SticktoPriest; don't jump to conclusions. He's a state senator, isn't he? He looks good right now, but he's hardly Presidential material until he gains more experience in higher offices.
It's one thing for Republicans and people on the fence to say a guy looks good giving a speech at a convention. When they're considering him as a Presidential candidate, a whole other set of rules comes into play.
And I'm still of the opinion that a black Democratic candidate is too much for a lot of fence-sitters to handle, let alone Republicans. For heaven's sake, we've only managed to elect one President who isn't Protestant.

oh, i don't know, he's a shoe-in in a state that has elected exactly one republican senator since 1979, however, that doesn't mean that he'll be able to transcend partisanship. let's see how he fares in the senate before we annoint him the new savior.

Charisma, maybe, but great ideas?
It sounded like all talk- all talk that everyone does.
