Really wonderful period romantic comedy. If you haven't seen it, you simply must. It'll make you swoon.
When it came out, I was working in a movie theater and the trailer was the butt of many jokes among the staff, particularly the one actress who exclaimed with OTT outrageousness "Madame GEORGE SAND has quite BRAZENLY INVITED HERSELF TO THE FORTNIGHT!!" We spent many hours imitating that line reading. We were sure it was a dud and that actress must have been one of the dregs of English acting.
Of course, we were wrong. The movie is a complete delight and that actress turned out to be a scene-stealing, pre-fame Emma Thompson.
Oh, and that Judy Davis wasn't too shabby, either.
