Is this normal! Im moving from midtown to uptown into a way way cheaper and smaller room and now that its all final I am freaking out thinking I made a wrong choice.I keep thinking things Like :"oh I cant walk to times square anymore"... Anyway I thought I would vent:)
Moving always causes anxiety, so that is normal. But how far up town are you moving? When Dave and I visit we use to stay at the Excelsior by the MONH, and we'd walk to Time Squarefrom there most of the time.

Oh my God, I was in the city in March and of course I fell in love with NYC.....I must move there....All my friends think I am insane....I don't need an Apartment....a room will do just fine.....How much would it cost to rent a tiny room in a safe area?
Honey, back in November I moved from Florida to DC to an apartment I had never seen, to a job I wasn't even sure existed and to a city where I knew nobody. You want to talk about moving anxiety??? lol
It'll be fine. Just keep saying "I'm saving a ton of money. I'm saving a ton of money"

Okay....
You can rent rooms in Harlem for like $80-100 a week.
I don't know how 'safe' it is, but I know a lot of people who do it.
Personally, I'm content in my location (I'm near Lincoln Center)... I know you can get much bigger places for cheaper up in Washington Heights, etc., but for me it just seems too far away. I have to be in the midst of it all.
Don't worry about the anxiety... that's totally normal. I know a lot of people who live up there (assuming thats where you are... because if you're near me and referring to that as uptown... trust me... I walk to times square ALL the time)... it's a nice area. You made a good decision... and remember... nothing lasts forever. It's only for now. :)
Thank you Miss Daisy....I have lived in L.A. and Seattle, but NYC is sooo different and fabulous...I really would love to live there for six months to a year for the experience of a lifetime...

Is "moving anxiety" anything like "walking pneumonia"?
Im moving to Central Park West in the low 100's. Right now im in Hells Kitchen so it's a ways:) Updated On: 5/30/04 at 09:11 PM
Yeah, that is a way. In good weather it will be fine but come winter, or rainy days that would be a bit far to walk.

...and you might freeze to death on a dark alley.
And that is why NY has a fabulous Subway system.
I think you guys misunderstood me. Im NOT wanting to walk to Times Square from there! lol. I was just saying its going to be different not bieng able to since from my current apt. I can. I hate taking the subway but i'll be bussing it everywhere:)
Once you move and settle in, you will be fine. If not, you can move again. :)
A couple of years ago I temporarily (6 months) lived at 109th and Central Park West. Whenever I left the apartment to go to work, I'd say to my roomie "I'm heading into town now"...he always laughed - but it felt so far away. The commute isn't bad at all on the B,C lines...maybe 20 minutes. I just moved back to Hell's kitchen (48th and 9th) over the weekend and it took me 15 minutes total to walk to work - gotta Love that!
