Inglourious Basterds (2009)#1

Has there really not been a thread of this, yet?
I love this movie. Best of the year so far, imho. Seen it three times, and it improves with every viewing.
Absolutely brilliant, with Tarantino's characteristically delicious dialogue, assured and mesmerizing filmmaking, and an astonishing ensemble cast (the standout being an Oscar-worthy Christoph Waltz).
Thoughts?

Posted: 8/31/09 at 11:28pmI saw Inglorious Basterds a couple of days ago. Is it Tarantino's best film? No (I believe Reservoir Dogs is the best). Is it an awesome film? Heck yes! I have this good feeling that Christoph Waltz will be nominated, as his performance was extraordinary to say the least.

That's odd...I can't see my post, plus, this is not the thread I thought I was posting on, I thought I was posting on the longer thread linked to in someone's previous post.
Oh well...

This film is indeed a heavy contender for Best Picture. Though it's more likely the award will go to Hurt Locker, Avatar, or Up in the Air.
Despite the refrain we hear every year, this was a good year in film. :)

Posted: 12/28/09 at 9:22amThis was my third Tarantino film. I only had previously seen the two KILL BILLs. I was surprised to see some of the same storytelling elements (titles, similar music, similar sudden violence) but I guess those are his signatures. I need to see PULP FICTION, I am told...

Since my post seems to have disappeared into thin air, in sum, I thought Christoph Waltz's performance was award worthy, but I thought the film had too many Tarantinoisms in it, and that spoiled it for me.
Let the editor edit. Less is more. We don't need inappropriate pop music, detailed narratives, and stupid drawings with arrows. And the "all fell dead" gunplay has been done to death (pun intended).
Kill Bill was a Kung Fu homage dragged out to fill two crappy movies. Reservoir Dogs was fine. Pulp Fiction was a masterpiece. IB...ehh.

Posted: 12/28/09 at 10:12amPULP FICTION is a big gassy bore, it sinks under its own weight, as opposed to the lean mean RESERVOIR DOGS, still Tarantino's best film. As for BASTERDS, well, when it is good, it is quite good, and when it is bad, you're watching Brad Pitt deliver his least watchable attempt at a performance.

For its time, Pulp Fiction was pretty innovative. I was blown away by Tarantino's technique... until he made more movies.
I do agree that Jackie Brown is good.
