Insomnia

Posted: 12/30/08 at 4:38amI have a major problem with this. I can get to sleep, but I wake up every hour or so. By 2 I'm up for the day. I went to a doctor recently who prescribed Ambien, but it didn't do a damn thing. Any suggestions?

Posted: 12/30/08 at 5:05amI can't sleep tonight because I have a terrible cold and cough. I have a suggestion for you nmartin. Have you been checked for sleep apnea. That has been a problem for me for years and I finally got on the machine about two months ago it's been working pretty well so far. It just doesn't work when you have a cold. Anyway good luck to you, you feel so much better when you can get some sleep.

I've never been tested for that. I assume the machine you mean is a breathing machine.
I have rotten sinuses and allergies that probably trouble my sleep as well.
As for your nasty cold, I fully understand.

For the most part my sinuses are much better sinse I use a sinus rinse most every day. My biggest problem is going outside on a cold windy day without a face mask. Wear I live the allergens are especially bad after a rain and I'm sure that's what happened to kick start this cold I have.
Anyway getting back to the machine, it takes a little getting used to but I love the fact that I'm finally getting some real sleep and I'm able to function like a real person.

Last night my daughter was out late ( cant sleep if she is out), then at around 3:30 my dog threw up and looked funny so we were up with him, then around 4:30 he wanted out, then I had to get up at 6:30 for work. I am gonna be TIIIIRED today!!
Stockard, I hope you feel better soon. Everyone at work is sick, too.

Posted: 12/30/08 at 2:04pmWell, the day before he got into my daughter's Christmas stocking and ate an entire bag of chocolate coins. Foil and all. So his barf was gross, yet sparkly. Anyway, he seemed fine this morning. Thanks for asking. Hope the doc says you dont have strep. THE. WORST!!!

Posted: 12/30/08 at 2:09pmOh, clever name! That's a sin about your dog!! My kids heard that if a dog eats chocolate it can kill them, so if even a single coco puff falls on the floor they start screaming that our puppy is going to die! At least the barf was sparkly!!

Posted: 12/30/08 at 3:00pmI used to have a cat who loved to eat tinsel. She'd have long sparkly strands dragging behind her till March. She made really funny noises if you tried to pull them out.

lol - the twists and turns these threads take crack me up. From insomnia to tinsel bottoms.
Radiana, I went to a sleep clinic and they said I needed a CPAP - I tried it for about a week and just couldn't get used to it. Is that what you have - a CPAP? Do you know what strength your air pressure is set at?

I used to have a black lab, and one time she was walking all funny and looking behind her. I checked her out and she had fishing line coming out of her butt. I was terrified, thinking there was a hook on the other end. We pulled it out and she was ok.
But Joe, Im familiar with that funny noise.

"What is a sinus rinse?"

Go to your pharmacy. Ask for a nasal douche (they come in plastic or blown glass) and a bottle of alkalol. There are instructions included with the douche. But basically, you use the douche to get the alkalol into your sinuses where it kills germs, bacteria and dissolves mucus. Then you blow it all out.

Posted: 12/30/08 at 3:38pmIt's weird and can be unpleasant at first. Then you get used to it to the point where you look forward to it.

LMAO @ the sparkly poop and puke! And tinsel butt!
So I don't have strep, but she gave me an antibiotic anyway since she said it seems like it's a viral infection that is lingering longer than it should be. Gawd I hope it works fast. I seriously can't swallow. Although that hasn't kept me from eating, god forbid.

Antibiotics won't help a viral infection. She must have meant that you likely have a secondary bacterial infection that a virus instigated or initiated.
For insomnia I'll have some good sex, then maybe a diazepam. Works most of the time.

Well now you've confused me, Krissy! Ah hell, I don't know what she said. I just know she gave me an antibiotic.
