One of my favorite websites, www.fivethirtyeight.com, is suggesting that Obama might break from conventional wisdom and announce his VP pick at the start of, or during, the Olympics. He does have $5 million of time, and they are suggesting that it might be a great way to get their own ticket ads out there to define themselves.

I can't see that happening. It will be viewed as either:
A) Stealing the spotlight from the atheltes and to some extent politicizing what is supposed to be a completely non-political event, or conversely
B) That his announcement will be overshadowed by the games thus losing a major oppurtunity to capitalize on the publicity.
It's a lose/lose situation.
That being said, he just might be arrogant enough to do it.
oh he's totally gonna do it.
this is gonna be better than boras announcing at the world series that arod was opting out of his contract.
he's gonna get crucified for it too.

When did "Journalism" drop to the level of "What if?" No source, no evidence, nothing but a major ad buy during the Olympics (Which is MIGHTY suspicious- why would a candidate BUY TIME in the most heavily watched programs? hmmmmm). I think we're going to the convention before we hear the announcement.
on the other hand, they might continue this game of chicken right up until the week before the election and then anounce their running mates in dueling simultaneous press conferences.
and monkeys might fly outta joe's butt.
but bammy might announce just before or right after the start so that he can saturate the olympics with bammy/veep tba ads.

I guess I'm old fashioned. I liked the old days when they announced at the convention.
I agree, Joe. By the convention, it will be even more clear how much he needs Hillary, and they can stride up to the podium together.

Wow- this is weird. I just heard a rumor that he's considering Bernadette Peters!
