There's a difference between plot holes and perplexing. 2001 was perplexing. This had plot holes.

Make no mistake, INTERSTELLAR is no 2001.
Whereas Kubrick's film let its imagery do the talking, this film couldn't keep its mouth shut. And what came out was, for the most part, dumbed down for today's (dumb) audiences. I found it mildly entertaining, but, overall, it wasn't nearly as smart as it (Nolan) thinks it is. Can't imagine sitting through it twice.

It was terribly ambitious and deeply flawed. I found myself a lot more drawn in emotionally than it sounds like some of you were -- I got pretty teary at young Murph's grief over losing her father, and then Cooper getting the messages from his son after missing decades. The really human elements.
Did they adequately explain why they didn't seek Cooper out if they wanted an experienced pilot? I have memory of it coming up, but I can't for the life of me remember what the actual reason was. Or, hell, to contact anyone else who had piloted with him -- he may have been THE BEST EVER, but he wasn't the only one with practical experience. (My friend joked that Cooper must have just slipped off the radar and didn't pay taxes, to which I pointed out that he SPECIFICALLY SAID HE PAID TAXES.)
