My dad used to take me to the G&S Society performance in Houston every summer (it's a top-notch group, btw, led by a D'Oyly Carte veteran). Sigh. Good times. Sadly, Iolanthe is one of the few I still haven't seen.

wow, how cool. It really is a fun show. I saw it in Stratford, Ontario one summer, and they "updated" it to make the political comments about Canada at the time......

The Houston society used to do that every time they did The Mikado -- they'd update lyrics in "I Have A Little List" and "My Object All Sublime" to contain local and national topical humor, like the Southern Baptist boycott of Disney.

I know it's bad, but I really can't get into G&S. I mean, I like a few songs from different shows, but once I tried to watch "The Mikado" on dvd and I actually fell asleep about 15 minutes into it.
