We did On The Town my senior year of high school. I don't think I've gotten parts of the opening number out of my head since.

Hahaha...NEW YORK, NEW YORK...the dancing is amazing! Great choreography!
It's infinitely better than having, oh, let's say THE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT stuck in your brain, now isn't it, Scott?
I'm an ALW fan, and I don't give a F*CK if people approve!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
If that stays lodged in my head for more than duration of the shower I'm about to take, Deet, you should probably be very careful about going into any dark alleys in the West Village for a while.
Duly noted.

Anyone in the mood to belt?!

I'm always in the mood to belt, which is why my throat hurts today. I wish my mom had sent me to voice lessons as a kid instead of piano.
I love getting belted.

Well the thing is, Mauri. You shouldn't be belting from your throat!
It's a mini lesson Use your diaphragm to control the air and stretch your soft palate. Nothing should be coming from the throat. If that makes sense...

Yeah. I've been trying to retrain myself for a while. It's hard to break a 20+ year habit. I just wish I learned the right way from the beginning.

"Nothing should be coming from the throat."
That's right. It should be coming inside. And that's my last sex joke for tonight, I swear.

Right, Stagey. I'll believe it when I see it.

Let me know when it is, Robbie. I love ON THE TOWN. I've been singing "New York, New York" all day. I guess it would be nice if I knew more than two words of the song, but I'm having fun!
OK, I'm going to the last basketball game of the year. I'll see you lovies later!
I'll send you a pic then, mauri.

Yea...I only had one year of actual voice lessons before I auditioned for schools and it turned out I learned some bad technique and habits so I've broken them this year. You just need to practice is all!

Will it be safe for work, Stagey?
I'll keep that in mind, Robs. Of course, singing is just a hobby for me, so there's less pressure.
basically, you should just hold all the tension in your neck and scream the high notes.
Today is a provincial holiday called Family Day, so every one gets off work (except me...damn theatre industry). My brother just called is taking me out to dinner and a movie. It weird to actually have family nearby.

Exactly, Taz! See Taz learned great technique. It's also really good to stretch your neck out to get those high notes!
I have HORRIBLE technique, but I have quite the powerful belt. It actually paid my way through college. But its a good thing I retired because I would have probably blown a vocal chord or something.

right rob! And always remember not to breathe before each phrase, but wait until you're out of breath to inhale.

My aunt once told me to look upwards while hitting high notes because it would make it easier to hit them. I wish I were kidding.

Of course...it's important to take shallow breaths, as well! Deeper is not always better
And don't forget, use your jaw as much as possible!
Oh no rob, deeper IS always better
