I would've known this if I could tolerate the textbook. Alex Epstein is a pompous jackass who thinks he knows everything there is to know about TV writing to the point at which he actually criticizes pretty much every other TV writer in the textbook. It's less a reference and more a high-and-mighty commentary on American television. So none of us read that far.
Thank GOD a large portion of the final was on an episode of The West Wing. I definitely got all those questions right.

It's odd that your teacher's taught you TV writing. Getting a gig with a TV series is probably the hardest part of the industry and getting there involves not just talent, but a lot of networking.
I really don't know if I'd teach screenwriting with a text book. I can't think of any I've read that would teach anything, except how do something. I've learned the "why" through practice and reading other scripts.

I loved pop culture class at my school. It was so much better than math and I really enjoyed it! It was obviously my only favorite subject in school, next to Chorus.

We take two years of playwriting and two of screenwriting, sophomore year we write film scripts and senior year we study TV writing. I don't think anyone in my class is actually planning on writing TV. My teacher hated my script, anyway.

I took Creative Writing, and the final was yesterday. What a joke that was! Six essay questions about editing our own work.
I'm still kind of in shock over that math exam, though. Luckily, I had Forensics right after, and it was a two page, fill-in-the-blank open notebook test. Phew!

I always wish I could have gone to an arts school!
Forensics is cool, though. An easy grade, but still really interesting. We've done hair, tire tracks, foot prints, and fibers. Next is blood spatter analysis.

Our school was a normal school. Math, Science, History, English, blah blah blah...
No forensics, no creative writing, nothing fun.
Which is why I did so badly.
