I did my own interpretation of the show, much to some of my cast members chagrin. Some of them really wanted to do a carbon copy of the video, and I was having none of that. I don't believe in doing carbon copy productions, I like to put my own stamp on a show and challenge myself, and my casts, to find new things in a given text and/or score.

I'd have liked to see that, Deet. I didn't much like ITW, and I think what I saw was a normal, unimaginative production. It was ages ago, though.

It was an okay production - not the best ITW ever, certainly not the worst. I had a fabulous Witch, Baker and Narrator, a good Baker's Wife and two hilarious step sisters. The rest of the cast was average to disappointing. The musical director was more of a control freak than I am, and the score sounded FABULOUS!
I want to design Into The Woods so bad, but only if I have a great director. Deet, do you have any pictures of your production? I'd love to see. Also have you seen pictures of the Stratford Festival's version a few years back. Look it up...you will be very intruiged.

I worry because we don't have enough instrumental talent to have an orchestra. We did Grease with the recorded CD from Sam. French, but I haven't met the director yet. I don't know his style. Basically, I'm just happy we have one right now, and that he's doing a musical. Our school only started doing musicals last year.

I know there are some great bits in it, but it certainly wouldn't be one of my favourite scores. Not sure just how fabulous it can sound.

You did Grease to a CD? *shudder*
It can sound amazing when done well. The MD also took the tempi quite fast and the effect was dazzling.
Akiva, I do have pictures somewhere, just not sure where I've stored them.
Oh, and we had a fat Cinderella. She wasn't fat when the production started rehearsal, she was voluptous. But like Jim Broadbent;s character in BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, she dealt with stress by stuffing her face, which I didn't know when we hired her - I'd never worked with her before and the MD wanted her for her voice. As you may have gathered, it was a very stressful production; by the time we opened she had gained about 10 pounds, and her costume had to be let out twice during the run.

But Grease doesn't even need a big band, a small keyboard-guitar-drums set up would suffice! How hard can it be to find a few musicians and few bob to pay 'em? CDs are stealing our jobs! STRIKE!!!

I just hate tracking.
And if you don't remember, my piano skills aren't even at that level! (Not that that level is particularl high). But if you were doing Sweeney Todd, I play a mean recorder! My clarinet isn't bad.

I do my last exam in about April, and then I'll be able to teach. I could go for the Academy's Gold Medal, but I think I might keep that for another time, because I'll be in my last year of school then and I'll need to maximize my results points.
Did I mention I was in a cheap production of MAME? Yes, siree! And we basically sang along to the cast recording. W00t!

Hey kids! And I mean that literally. That was my shout out to Linnie, Wiz, and DGG!
And hey to all the non-kids also! Deet, it feels like we haven't talked in ages!
And was there a Jaily sighting? I was cuddling with somebody, I know that.

So many possible replies to Akiva's last post, so little energy left to devote to them.

I used to be able to play Danny Boy on two recorders (Descant and Treble) at the same time, in a lovely harmony, but I can't remember much of it now. I should try figure it out again.
