Is The Off-Topic Board Boring Anyone Else To Tears?

The reason it's getting repetitive:
No variation in posters.
Too many people get on every single day and comment on every single thread.
I used to be one of them.
Take a break for about a week, and then come back.
Not only will everything be new and exciting,
but chances are that there will have been some new explosive fight that you will have missed and you'll only know bits and pieces of what just happened.
And at the same time, you won't have missed so much that you're unable to jump back in...
It's kinda like what happens when you're addicted to a soap opera.
You can miss a few weeks of episodes and still know what's going on.
Same with a sitcom.
Or a reality show.
Or, say, Degrassi.
Not that I would know.

FF,
Likening the OT Board to a Soap Opera is the best analogy about ANYTHING I've heard in a while!!!
[Not that I would know ANYTHING about Soap Operas!]

Posted: 12/6/04 at 1:34amHm. The fact that the OT board is less interesting than it used to be has actually been pretty useful to me- I only feel the need to post on a few threads before I move on, and I can work on all my finals. Maybe other people are in my situation, school-wise, and don't feel like talking too much. Election season is over, too, and that used to provide plenty of chat fodder. I hope that this is a cyclical thing rather than a continual decline. We'll see.

If you think the board has gotten dull since October when you joined, you should see how dull it is compared to a year ago. The one positive aspect is that I do spend a great deal less time on it.
As far as the comment about the board being more interesting in the summer, that's typically when the kids are on more frequently and I find it annoying. Talk about dull threads that are repetative.

Posted: 12/6/04 at 10:02amIsn't that ironic? All these old-time posters saying they don't spend as much time here anymore because it's boring. And of course, the board is becoming boring because they won't spend time here anymore. Hooray for vicious cycles! Looks like the only way to break this one is to have new and interesting people join.

Why does anyone choose to come back somewhere if they are not having a good time? M_E, you know this is not a new opinion of mine --
Everyone should post to the threads they are interested in. If not, simply do not go there. If a particular member bothers you, block or ignore them.
If someone does not feel "welcome" in a thread, maybe look to yourself for the reason.
Do things get out of hand sometime -- of course they do. Is it natural for group dynamics to have some people get closer to others -- of course they do. No one can expect to change that.

I am a new member as of this past summer.
This might sound bad, but one of the things that made the board fun for me was some of the fighting. Not saying I like Rodney or agreed with anything he said, but some of the responses and stuff he got were just very humorous. Now it seems like the only thing people get into heated arguments about is Wicked OVER AND OVER again.

Posted: 12/6/04 at 10:56amThe board was fun long before Rodney, and will continue to thrive without his presence. People like him say they're causing discussion when all they're really after is acrimony. There's a difference. I love arguing, but the type of fighting assholes of his ilk provoke is no good for any board.

I don't know about other posters but I find that there are fewer threads that interest me lately. After a while, I think it's just a natural progression for many people to post less. The novelty wears off. That's not a neagtive thing.
So, I post in the ones where I have a comment to make or want to add something to the discussion. I think that after a

This board does not exist to keep you entertained 24/7. Your enjoyment of any Internet discussion board is a manifestation of the energy you bring to it. If you find it boring, perhaps it is because you are being boring.
Step away and take a look at the energy you bring here. If that is something you want in your life, you will come back. If not, you will go somewhere else.
And where IS Zola?
