Why YES, YES he IS GREAT!
And why do I say such a thing, knowing that when I do it might cause both panic and rage? Because I must, for you see he...is....
MY FATHER!
There I said it, it's something I never thought I'd say out loud, I swore I wouldn't expose this dark secret, but I believe recent events made it impossible for me to not share it with you all, even thought he once said, "If you tell anyone I'll have you killed..no really, I will have you murdered slowly and buried in a shallow grave off the interstate in Bound Brook, New Jersey!"
It's not that he doesn't take care of me, far from it, I'm on a weekly allowance of two chickens and a strip of corduroy, that goes a long way in this town. See, I don't love him because he's some big time showbiz hot shot, nor do I gush and coo cause he is an inspiration to so many music lovers, nope, I love him because he changed my diapers when I made a "boo boo", as a matter of fact, he still does...Marc Shaiman, my papa, taught me how to ride a bike, how to throw a ball, how to be a man.
Ok, maybe "he" didn't, but he hired a lovely woman from Tobago named Vulva Jean to handle those tasks, sadly she had to be let go and deported due to her giving me "too many hugs" and the embezzlement/blackmail problem.
He was there during my rough high school years, making sure I was the best dressed little boy in Nipsey Russell Highschool, and gave me a shoulder to cry on when my fellow classmates gave me daily beatings due to the hot pink pants suit he demanded I wear, "If it's good enough for Miss Dinah Shore, it should be good enough for you!" he'd yell before locking me in the storm cellar.
As I made my way into the world he was always a voice of calm reason, giving me a daily dose of good, old fashioned parental reinforcement, like the time I was readying for the prom, I'll never forget his pleading words, said out of gritted teeth and bitter tears, "They're all gonna laugh at you!"
His favorite quote around the house was, "I should of killed myself when he put it in me."
That kind of stuff makes you a strong person, now as I work the night shift at the Unicorn Bookstore and have a "problem with the drink", I have my "Popi" to thank for the guidance and wisdom that allowed me to get this far, so when people ask me "Isn't Marc Shaiman Great?"
I might say, "Yeah, he's AMAZING", but what I'm really saying is "Yeah, he's MY AMAZING DAD".
