Your mouth to God's ears PJ! I am just looking forward to getting the judicial branch involved-- maybe we can finally sort out some of these bizarre executive branch claims!

All in good time, Dottie, all in good time.
You can't start impeachment procedures until the American public WANTS it.

The president and Congress may strike a deal for "limited testimony" (I HOPE NOT!), but if they don't, both the House and Senate could issue contempt citations and a battle over separation of powers would go to federal court and, ultimately, the Supreme Court.
Even if the Supreme Court ruled with the White House, the American public would probably demand impeachment, which could be started on another issue. That's why it's important to keep things like illegal wiretapping, un-American torture practices and the firing of US attorneys alive. But it will be the lying that gets them in the end.
If the polls are over 80-85% in favor of impeachment, enough Republican representatives would vote for it, and enough Republican senators would vote for conviction. The immigration battle is helping sway the last remaining Republicans who haven't been swayed by the mishandling of Iraq.

It will be interesting to see how the Republican dominated court will handle this if it gets that far- they will obviously want to side with Bush, but how in the world will they justify upsetting the balance of power and blatantly disregarding the constitution? Will they sacrifice their own oversight to side with the president? And what will this (and future) presidents do with their increased powers? We live in interesting times.

Impeachment? Don't count on it. Just because Bush's own party members are as sick of him as anyone else does not mean they will vote to impeach (a majority of the House) and/or convict (two-thirds of the Senate).
Sane politicians do not want to put themselves or anyone else through that again anytime soon. First off, the votes for a conviction just are not there. Don't waste my time and money if you cannot win.
In the three times impeachment has seriously gone forward (1868, 1974, 199
only once was it anything other than partisan politics in the extreme. Of the three counts voted out of the 1974 Judiciary Committee only two were bi-partisan. The third was a party-line vote.
Impeachment is like a nuclear bomb. Don't throw it around like it was confetti. It is to be used as a last last resort.
I think we are left with 18 months of a stalemate. Don't expect anything of import to happen unless it is by Executive Order or Judicial fiat. The votes aren't there to over ride important vetos.
[Edit - I haven't a clue where this little yellow head came from and like herpes, it won't go away.]

The little yellow head is there because you typed the numeral eight next to a parenthesis. The computer thought you wanted a smilie face
instead of a 8 ).

Please, please get your people to fight for impeachment.
It would expose the radical left to the American people. This would be GREAT!

You all miss my point: There won't be impeachment until the American people WANT it.
What the Democrats are doing now--and it's BRILLIANT!!!!!--is making the American people HORNY for impeachment.

HD, how much longer can you gloat? Honestly, it is SO childish. I sometimes have to remind myself no matter how dumb you come across, we're all on the same side. Man, this country has never been divided like it is now. We're dealing with a ton of HD's, how can we unite this coutnry with your menatlity HD? Why do you hate America? Why do you support the terrorist? Why do lie the way you do? Why don't you just listen? Why do you always have to keep score on such petty things? I swear, its people like you that is killing this country and your too dumb or stuborn to see it.Stop the lies!
You got Republicans turning on Bush so be careful on that gloating? HD, your the kid on the street with ice cream bragging at the poor kids and making fun because they can't afford any.

If you can get over yourself long enough and get off your high horse you'll see you have nothing to feel so high and mighty over. Only an arrogant uninformed fool would think otherswise! Get a clue.

Did you mean the birth parents?
I mean the ones he's going to grow up to call Mommy and Mommy.
The ones who are going to nurse him through fevers and colds and skinned knees and hurt feelings.
The ones who are going to buy birthday and Christmas presents for him.
The ones who are going to help him with his homework.
The ones who are going to watch him play sports and act in plays and fall in love and get his heart broken.
The ones who are going to get old together, watching him have a life of his own.
I mean his PARENTS: Heather and Mary.
