America has officially turned into a paranoid 70's thriller.
Cameras on bikes they didn't tell you about.

I love those bikes.
The thing about these satire sites is that so much of what they "report" is sadly all too probable.

i hope you dont ride on the sidewalk, go thru redlights, go the wrong way on a 1 way street, or play chicken with a pedestrian, cuz its rare i see a citibiker not doing at least two of these things!

Posted: 7/31/13 at 2:53pmGhostlight, have you actually tried the bikes? I think they're a great idea. They have them just outside my office, but not near my home (which is where really could use them).

Posted: 7/31/13 at 3:01pmYes, I have a membership, Reg. They're great. This way I don't have to haul my bike onto the subway if I want to ride to work but don't want to ride back. There aren't really close to my house (yet), so I have to walk a ways to get one, but it's totally worth it. One of the best things to happen in the city for some time, imo.

Getting around the city on bike is fantastic--fast, easy, good for you, good for the planet.
I'm absolutely mystified by people who feel compelled to carp and criticize urban bikers, but everyone is welcome to their own world-view.
As for being a source of disease--anyone who is infected by a Citi-bike is not using the bike properly.

OMG Addison, you cracked me up with that. Youre right of course...though... im just a germphobe and i get sick thinking about all the germs on public things like library books, subway poles, doorknobs etc.
For the record, i enjoy bike riding alot, and have a Bianchi cross trainer that i use several times a week. but when a person on a bike tries to play chicken with me in my suv, well it makes me laugh. im not worried about losing that battle

Diva, that is ridiculous!
Addison, exactly. What do they call the practice of biking around in the buff? I'm sure there is some kind of catchy term.

Maybe because they don't obey traffic laws or show respect for pedestrians.

I confess I'm not a biker myself, but nearly all my friends are, and I wholeheartedly approve of biking in general and Citibikes in particular.
But I work at the intersection of two avenues and a major cross street, and the bike traffic is insane--and insanely dangerous. I have to look so many ways before crossing--and I'm talking with the light. I have nearly been hit so many times. And actually hit more than once.
Pedestrians are a danger, too, of course. They seem to think bike lanes are so they don't have to walk on crowded sidewalks.
But the bottom line is certainly that bikes are a good thing.
