Hi,
I'm working on trying to sing I'm yours by Jason Mraz for a singing competition in April. I can sing the song low with no problem but I realize it's suppoed to be sung in a higher voice, I can hit the high notes but it hurts when I go up high and my music teacher always tells us when it hurts to sing it means your not doing your voice any good.
Any tips?
This is the song btw

I'm thinking I could try to have the key lowered but IDK if it'd sound as good then, also with the competiion, we use Karoke Cd's.

If it's too high, then it's too high. Find a different song or lower the key, but don't strain your voice.

Ok but now I just have to figure out how many "Semitones" to lower it. Any help?
Lower as many steps as it takes for the higher notes to be comfortable in your range. You're the only one who can determine the exact number.

ok
Does anyone know how to convert a utube video (The karoke track) into an MP3 file so I can put it into a transposer and transpose the song.
Also I was thinking do I even need to transpose the karoke track?
Baby girl, don't sing it if it hurts. Take it from me. I learned that the hard way. If your singing something and it hurts, it means that you have to warm-up more, or just not sing it. It also might be, that the higher version of the song is not in your range.
Listen to this and tell me if it's the key your singing it in. If it is...Well than you should probably be able to sing that with no problem. But, I don't have your voice. I can sing the key that she's singing it in, perfectly.
(Send me PM with how old you are so I can determine your range.)
