re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Well, I set my alarm for nine. Not that soon, but still.

The whole Rent thing is putting me totally on edge. The behind the scenes thing made me so happy. Now there's a post that has a lot of negativity towards things that I guess still secretly worry me a tiny bit. I think what's happening is that I'm afraid of being let down, even though I want to, and think I can, trust that I won't be.

And I'm nutty enough to lose sleep over this.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

I only buy the lotion-y ones.

It's so funny, everyone keeps talking about how they're tearing up watching these, but I've only teared up a few times. I think it's because my excitement is overriding all other emotions. But one it hits, I know it's going to hit HARD.

Emcee, I'm not reading any reviews, especially random people on message boards that join solely to post their reviews. It's killing me, but I already know so much about it, I didn't want EVERYTHING to be revealed and I wanted to judge it for myself instead of all these preconceived opinions.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

I'm too curious not to click it. And I really am finding out that I'm just afraid of not liking it. It's not that I don't want to know things, I'm a curious person. But... I've told myself for so long that I AM going to love it, and now things are getting to me. What if I... don't? That'll hurt me, I think.

The one that says, "Sufficient spoilers"? I saw that and clicked away! I'm through reading them... really. I can do it. *nods* Maybe.

No matter what, Em, you won't be completely let down. I don't think that's possible! You've invested too mch time and energy into this thing. As George Michael once said: "You gotta have faith. You gotta have faith, faith, faith." re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Not completely, no. But what's this about April's suicide not being mentioned? I mean, she's actually IN the movie. Roger's situation means NOTHING if we don't know why he's like this. I think those things that aren't correct won't be totally disappointing to me because I know the plotlines that may be left out, and these are characters I already know but... still, that's odd.

I knew that being so calm for the past few months would eventually cave in!

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Emcee, that's exactly why I didn't want to read reviews in the first place, because I was scared I would start to second guess everything and end up driving myself crazy. But I'm not going to put my trust in some random person's opinion of the show (especially the ones that start with "I'm not really a Rent fan..."). I'm going to trust the Larsons, and the cast, who have dedicated more of their lives to this story than any of us can even imagine, and all of them have loved it. Not loved it because they're now starring in a huge movie, but loved it because it was done the way Jonathan Larson would have wanted it, and that's all that really matters to me.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

I'm so scared. You know, it's not the negative opinions that are scaring me, because I know everyone's entitled. It's the information that's scaring me. I know there's an angle to every piece of info we have, but still. Things like "___ is cut." Those are the things I'm afraid won't sit right, no matter how badly I want them to. I feel like now that it's coming so fast, I'm almost right back where I started. And it's just a movie.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

I hadn't heard that. That IS weird. Does April just... stop being there? Maybe I should go read that thread on the main board. Hey, did I hear in that show that Collins is a student, not a professor? That was odd.

Oh GOD, now I'm starting to second guess. orangeskittles makes an excellent point, though. These people know what they're doing.

Okay, I have to at least TRY to go to sleep. Try not to fret too much, Em, and accept the things you cannot change. Love you!

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Collins gets expelled, though. I thought he was a grad student who taught. Like a TA.

Like I posted on the main board, I can't tell anymore whether I'm actually worried that these differences will hurt the movie overall, or hurt how I feel about it, or whether I'm just a bit sad that things that are big guideposts in the story for me aren't there.

Why am I still up? God, Thursday night is going to be absolutely brutal.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

The "____ is cut" things bother me (especially when people use them as thread titles- ya ever hear of SPOILER WARNINGS?!) because I don't wanna know. Maybe I'm so tired I'm not thinking clearly, but I just want to be able to see it in it's entirity before I start picking at little things. November 23rd, all hell breaks loose.

April's suicide not mentioned does sound odd though. Maybe it's not mentioned in song/dialogue, but it's implied through the visuals.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Woohoo Em you're usually not up as late as me.

Just watched the Starz thing-more EEEEEE's from me!

I do think to an extent you can control your own feelings. Totally honestly, between the clips I've seen, to the assurance of the stars, to the passion and enthusiasm of everyone involved, I just don't think it's even a possiblity that I won't thoroughly enjoy it. I mean it doesn't have to be perfect b/c..it's Rent...on the big screen...and the whole "8 people realize the only thing they need to live is each other." (has anyone heard that voice-over before?) yup started bawling. That's the essence of Rent, measuring your life in love(even though it's totally overplayed). And from everything I've seen that message gets out loud and clear.

The movie is going to be wonderful, and I have decided to not read reviews. Sometimes you can't help but be swayed by things? Or maybe you look for something that was cut as opposed to coming home after and oh wow I didn't realized they cut it, etc.

But yeah still excited for tomorrow evening when I can watch it on my bigger screen TV as opposed to blurry on my little labtop.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Ugh, I swear, I'm never this optimistic during normal hours. Maybe I should go to sleep just so I can get back to normal, because my last post doesn't even sound like how I would usually feel.

The "Who's Online" bar seems to be dwindling. :/

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Well, I'm also afraid of letting my optimism blind me from developing a valid, slightly objective opinion that can take on some value. I feel sort of odd about wanting so badly to like it that I force myself to like it, even though there are things that I "shouldn't" be okay with. In the same way that I dislike having my opinions spoon-fed to me, I dislike having the entire ability to control them myself; not control in the sense of develop, but to know what I'm "supposed" to think, or to know what's "easier" to think. I feel... sort of.... devoid or impulse, somehow. I treasure my sponenaiety too much to predetermine how I'll feel about something, I guess.

It's funny how honest we become when sleep-deprived.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

I'm not reading reviews, either. And I'm trying not to think about the movie too much before I see it. I want to go in there with an open mind and just enjoy it. Hopefully the changes they've made won't detract from the overall meaning. I have faith! Don't worry too much, emcee, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. re: It's quiet on the board tonight. re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Heh, I'd be sleeping if I didn't watch the Starz thing, but now I'm too excited.

Eh, I guess I see your point, it's a personality trait. You'll make a great critic, that's definitely a characteristic of what a critic needs-to not just try to enjoy things at all costs, but haha be wanting to be a psychologist, that would be my advice. Funny how different life goals, which stem from personalities, can create such differences.

And...I don't know if this is wrong or not, but I think somewhere in my mind I've reached a point where all the cast members, Anthony in particular, Chris Columbus, the Larson family have all said nothing but wonderful things about it and even if there's a flaw or two here or there...like...(again prob me totally not a critic thing) I kind of think...their opinions...not count more but...they are the people who should really be the ones critiquing it, IMO. And I guess I'm kind of at a point where it's not even that like oh so many movies actors/ppl are like yeah it's great, I've never seen the kind of enthusiasm for a movie demonstrated by this cast/crew. So between that, the content, the music, the acting, the clips I've seen, and the fact that it's very true to the show...I just know I'm gonna enjoy it, 99.9999% sure I'll love it.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

I know I'm going to like it. I'm afraid of not loving it. As long as the overall messages are there, I can't dislike it. It's Rent. I'm afraid of those little things making it less than I want so, so badly for it to be, even though in reality, I know they won't throw the bigger picture.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Yeah, I've definitely worried about that too. I'm usually very opinionated (I mean, I write an opinion column!) but there are some things I've developed a blind-spot for and I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. I guess I've just learned that Rent is one of those things I CAN'T be objective about. Like when you're so in love with someone that you don't even notice that their hair is too long and their teeth are too crooked because you love them anyway.

re: It's quiet on the board tonight. Where is everyone?

Fair enough guys, I have a better sense of what you mean, it's more of a sure it'll be great but just disappointment in something that could have made it better.

I guess that's about personality. I mean I looove the Phantom movie but I will admit it's flawed.

Hahaha just had a great thought w/ the flaws in that and the fact that's one of my fav movies...man I'm going to love this movie...just have an instinct Rent will be less flawed

::shrug:: I guess the answer is I understand you valuing things too much to look at it like me I'm gonna love it lalala but...try not to lose sleep over it, you're definitely playing too much of a what if game (not that I'm saying that's why you're up now, I'm friggin dead awake which is really bad...) To get through the 3 slow days, just think about all the things you've loved about the movie and amazing experiences of the last year and that will keep you totally positive and excited...might make the days longer however..

And I may have repeated myself 5 times in my post...oy...4AM.

Woah, small list (relatively) of who's online--I feel like I'm part of an exclusive club...ooh you guys know how Are You Afraid of the Dark had the midnight society? Maybe everyone online now should be the 4AM society.

(Okay, as night gets later, I just get more random and start to make less sense and I never make THAT much sense to begin w/...sorry)
