He was a wondeful man and a former actor.
Apparently they were wrong. The latest report is that his brain and heart are still functioning.
CNN doesn't say yet.
All they're waiting for an official announcement is for certain procedures to be followed. Apparently his cardiogram has gone flat. (live radio)
I hope God continues to bless him.

Well, they normally close the shutters on the Pope's residence. That hasn't happened yet.
I'm sorry--but I guess I feel the same way about the Pope as I do Reagan.

Then why are you apologizing?
Because despite MY feelings (and the apparent need I felt to express them) I do not want to completely disrespect others' feelings.
Considering what he said in his book, I regret the loss of life but I will not mourn him.
A religious icon and a politician are two very different things. Tread lightly, because people will take much more serious offense to such statements. If you can hold your tongue just this once, I would plead for it. Thank you for your consideration.
I didn't like his policies, that's for sure. Yet he is an important figure to many, many people, and this IS a very important moment.
I hear Frank Purdue died too...deaths come in 3 ..who's next?
Beliefs are beliefs. Yours, his, and my own. ENOUGH SAID. Please don't do this.
ckeaton--with all respect--are they REALLY all that different? Especially given the history of the Vatican? Especially in the era of Dubya?
I'm hoping it's not Ranier while I'm in Monaco. Not being selfish--it would just be horrible
Every single one of us will pass this way but once.
This is a time to show respect for a fellow human being.
Actually, given the heightened sense of importance, I'd put death number one as Terri Schiavo, followed by the Pope. The 3rd, I suppose, it still up in the air, but if it were to be Jerry Falwell, talk about a religious (or religiously-fueled) trio.
Some people consider Bush a religious icon. I feel sad for the Pope, but I've been disgusted by many of his comments. His ideas had been outdated for quite a while. At least he lived a long full life.
And again--with all respect--how can I show respect for a fellow human being who would NOT have shown it for me?
I won't post further--as I've made my point--as I do not want this to escalate any further.
I don't agree with some of it, just as I don't agree with W. on everything. But I will NOT have this debate now. I don't think it's appropriate.
Much like W.'s obnoxious politicising of the Schiavo passing, I don't think that the Pope's imminent passing is a time for the debate. During the eventual selection of a successor... game on.
I only ask for respect, or at least silence, for a man that is the spiritual rock of billions.
his brain and hart are still funcining and he will not last the night...
May he rest in peace.

I don't imagine that the Terri Schiavo's death, although reported worldwide, will come close to the worldwide news story that the Pope's death will be. He is the 5th Pope in my lifetime; but, many people (most of the population on this Board), haven't known another.
