so i come on BWW, and am happy to notice that i'm not the only one that noticed the announcement! all my potterhead friends were like, "whaaa?? where?" hehe i felt so special noticing it first.
SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT SIRIUS DIES BEFORE I FINISHED!! ughh i was about ready to KILL him! it was the last week of school, and along with finals i was lugging that massive book around school reading it in my spare moments, and i'm a CHAPTER AWAY, and the bastard ruins it. i was about ready to RIP HIS HEART OUT AND HAND IT TO VOLDEMORT! i got my friends to convince me that is WASN'T TURE! sirius was, and always will be, my favorite character.
yes, tiff, i'm definitely not leaving my house this time either.
oh, and craig, i read that the order that harry's parents came out of the wand was a mistake, and has been fixed for future publishings. seems MANY people noticed this slight error. we clearly obsess over these books a little too much. myself included.

I'm going to hop into my Hermione costume (finally complete with wand!) to go to a midnight party... When I got OotP my friend called me every hour to see if I'd finished, oh it was so annoying! She was just like "Has the person died yet? It's so weird how they dies..." And such. And there where so many red herrings! Mr Weasley, Hermione, so traumatizing...
Personally, I don't think Sirius dies. He was such a key element in the series and it was such a quick "death" scene. I think he will be back. But, Rowling said before that there are going to be more people that die that are going to upset people (How much you want to bet it is one of the Weasley twins, who by the way are my favorite characters in the series). I will seriously cry if my predicitions are true
. But, yes overtly excited over the news. CAN'T WAIT!!!
Well, whether or not he died, when I got to the part, after building up on all this suspense, I thought, "Huh, that's it?"

i agree, he probably didn't die, but i was still SOOOO pissed that he told me. it was too quick, after all that publicity leading up to it... "oh, a main character is going to die....!"

There are so many Weasleys.. ones gunna hafta snuff it, sadly. If one has to go, I want Percy out because hes a big stupid git, but my money is on the Mrs...
Everyone who knows me, and has hear me talk about HP knows Lupin is my favorite.. if he dies the book is going in the freezer... (for about 2 seconds, because I'll go into withdraw... but still, the gesture is there.)
I did the same thing, Millie. I was MAD!!! that had to be the quickest and stupidest death scene ever. Well, to be perfectly honest, I didn't like the 5th book all that much. Harry was such a WHINER!!! I kept shutting the book and rolling my eyes.
I'm pretty sure that JK has said that Sirius is definitley dead. I was very unhappy with the way that happened, but then again, i thought the entire ending of HP5 was very poorly done. it seemed very rush and didn't wrap up anything.
i can't wait for the 7th book, when we can finally get the "big picture." JK has carefully orchestrated every single detail, and i feel like i'm barely skimming the surface without knowing everything.
i am a HP purist. i refuse to watch the movies, see pictures from the movies, hear the movies, read fanfic, see fan artwork...even those scarves that are supposedly the ones from the movies (i wouldn't know) make me cringe. i hate the way such brilliant books have been way over-commercialized. i read the first in september '98 (the first American edition was published 9/1/98 ) and have gotten each subsequent book as soon as possible. i have the British version of the 3rd because it came out there first. the 5th i got at midnight and read straight through, and will be doing the same for the 6th. all i can say is...don't come between me and my HP!!!

The 5th is my second favorite, bested by the 3rd. I think Harry's anger was perfectly founded, look at the crappy cards life has dealt him, afterall. I'd be mad too. Plus... more Lupin = Happy Autumn.
Do you think Sirius is really as cold-hearted as he seems, and really has a soft-spot for Harry? And Ron and Hermione?

I think... Sirius isn't cold hearted, but rather ruined by Azkaban, and the way he grew up. He's cynical. He certainly isn't perfect. He can be a hypocrite at times, and he can be cruel. But I think at heart he is a good person who was dealt bad cards in life.

Spider- I actually admire Rowling for being willing to be realistic and turn Potter from a Mary Sue into something resembling a real person. I mean, have you talked to any teenagers lately? We whine. A lot. Especially in the petulant mid-teen years.

Plum, it's not just the boys :) We teenagers are very angry folk.
I understand. I am just saying that there were a lot of parts that I felt just repeated itself over and over about why Harry was mad. I think she could have cut a good 100, maybe 200 pages out of the book and it would have been better. But, that is just me.
YAY!
Is it on amazon.com yet?
YES!!! *Jumps up and down* I CAN'T WAIT!!!! What would I do without BWW.com? I learn everything useful on this site.
Has anyone read a fascinating book called "The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter?" It is really interesting. It goes through every chapter of every book (1-4, actually) and analyzes clues and stuff. There is also a special "Restricted Section" that has ideas and clues about what might happen in books 5-7. They have some pretty interesting theories...There is also a supplemental book about the 5th book. If you haven't read these, I would greatly reccommend them. It's amazing how much you miss just plain reading them.

"In a joint announcement, Bloomsbury and Scholastic (the companies who publish the Harry Potter books in the UK and US) extolled JK Rowling and her sixth tome: "J.K. Rowling has written a brilliant story that will dazzle her fans in a marvelous book that takes the series to yet greater heights.""

yes, elphie. that book is my bible. they have one for the 5th book, too. in the original, its amazing how many predictions you can make. they were very straight on about the 5th one.
I have not read any of the books. I only see the movies as my wife is a Potter nut

Mr. Roxy, you're missing out!
BEKA- I know there is a book of "clues" about the 5th book, which I have, but do they a book similar to the 1-4 guide for the fifth book? I am not good at figuring out those clues they give us.
